Lots of times, Google Chrome will shut off. It then will say "Restore Pages? Chrome didn't shut down correctly." Also, sometimes I will get "Rats!WebGL hit a snag."
Now, I'm also told that I have low disk space. Everytime I clear the disk space, it seems like it doesn't work even though I go through with Disk Cleanup.
-
what is your OS, and Chrome versions?
have you tried creating and using a new profile for Chrome?
for a more thorough system cleanup, start an elevated command prompt and type cleanmgr c: /sageset:1 and hit Enter.
tick all the boxes and hit OK.
now type cleanmgr c: /sagerun:1 and wait for the two pop up boxes to auto-disappear.
another option is to get CCleaner by Piriform from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds (https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds)

And apparently he's infected with ransomware.
-
yeah, I replied to this one that I saw first, then saw the others and when I got to the ransomware one, it was 'all bets are off', he's in a world of hurt now. :)
-
A world of hurt? What does that mean?

A world of hurt? What does that mean?
If you've got Ransomware, then all your questions are rather moot. Your system is compromised and likely all the issues you've been facing are a direct result of it. Your entire software environment basically needs to be rebuilt from scratch.
-
But how do I go about doing that? Is it just to download Anti Ransomware Software?
-
if it was my rig, it's time to pull out ALL you software CD's (or downloads) and start from scratch.
this is where backups come in really handy - you have some system image snapshots don't you? 8)
-
I don't know.
-
Well if you don't know, who would?
-
How would I know if I have backups?
-
Did you make any backups? That's how you would know.
-
Jack i understand you are intimidated by all this PC jargon/issues etc...i would personally find a friend who is knowlegable to assist.
What you need right now is a backup of all your important info...then a wipe and a clean install of Windows...
Best of Luck and keep us posted.
-
Thank You Patio. I will do that because all of this is new to me.
-
If he knows what he's doin you'll be back up and runnin in no time...
HINT: Check for PC user groups in your area...or the local schools/libraries.
Again Best of Luck.

I downloaded Bitdefender for the anti ransomware. Is that ok? If it is, how does it work? Right now it says Protection Enabled, Ransomware Protection is on and The Protection against Ransomware is now active.
-
hang on... is the PC working now?
I thought it was hacked by ransomware and you couldn't do anything on it?
-
I can still go on the internet, it's just sometimes I'll get ransomware which I ignore. The thing is that I just got ransomware again and Bitdefender didn't block it.
-
You need a full wipe and a clean install as suggested above...
-
I downloaded Bitdefender and Spy Hunter5. The only problem with Spy Hunter5 is that I have to pay for it. I need free ransomware.
Now, I'm having major problems with the laptop. It automatically shuts off and it will say "Restore Pages? Google didn't shut down correctly." Its very annoying.
Now, like you mentioned that I need a full wipe and clean of Windows. How do I go about doing that? Will I lose all of my information? Dumb it down for me because I have no idea what to do.
-
we still don't know the status of any backups you may/may not have....
as Patio states in post #13 - time for a professional. if the PC has been infected, who knows what further 'damage' you are doing to your personal files with you using the PC.
is the infection sending itself to all entries in your address book?, is your personal info being harvested and sent out to the ether? - who knows.
priority one - an expert will remove your hard drive and recover your personal files that way. the drive (and data recovered) gets checked as things are copied so your data is 'clean'.
then that drive can be put back in and Windows reloaded, then all the software you need, then your personal files put back, then customised with your settings etc.
-
Where do I get this expert? Do I call them or email them? Are they online? I just don't know where I should turn too.
-
best option is always 'word of mouth' - that is, do you have friends, family, neighbours who have used, and recommend, someone they have taken their PC to in the past?
what about the telephone directory; YellowPages (or your local equivalent).
then there's the local newspaper; Classifieds or "Find a Tradie" or Local Services sections.
what about Facebook groups promoting local companies in your area?
and of course, just plain Google "computer repair shops in <insert your town here>"
