i have a few questions regarding 5.1 sorrund sound for a computer
1. How do i set them up, what i mean is one in front (sub woofer anywere0 left adn right but were do speakers 4-5 go in postion to my seat???
2. what speakers do you reccomend ( i like logitech) (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2177,CONTENTID=12254) i get them for about 60$$
3. also what sound card would be decent (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7293813&type=product&productCategoryId=cat01053&id=1118841152655) i was thinking (i get for 100)
any input would be helpful
My mobo can handle it no worries on any of that stuff

i cant begin to tell you how many of this EXACT problem comes in to GeekSquad everyday..........the excusses get better and better also ( i lost my taxes and i need you to break these 9 passwords) ....yea.....sure.....
At least its not like the novel writer who held his writings in his recycle bin....yea he paid us $$1600 to get his files back =P

yes,, yes i do
but i do not no much about sound, and aranging of the speakers right
i have asked the otehr agents and they all tell me some what diffrent things
i asked other departments (thats how i narrowed it down to those products)
i wanted more opinions, beacause this will total more than $200
i want more knowledge (slight rule of thumb)
Im sorry if you expect that all GS agents or any PC tech has to be know it alls i admit i do NOT know it all and thats why i joined this fourm to help others and ask small questions like these to learn more

Where did that come from?
What kind of conflicting information did you get? What about some specifics on your machine? Those items seem to be all you need, and if you get a discount that's great.
Personally I couldn't see $135 bucks for a sound card, but that's just me.

thats were, no big deal, just sound like one of our people today who was pissed because i dont knwo every last detail abot vonage god forbid
such as diffrent angles ( not that i messause) others said to just have like straight line from your ear, to the speaker thing like that

I think the lines need to be about the same length to prevent phasing, but other than that it should be a painless setup (if you like a lot of wires around the house. My wife doesn't :o :o :o :o :o)
That seeme the way to go for you, in your situation.
Maybe Raptor will come by as he is into 5.1 sound now to offer specifics on this. I think he will be changing his name to THX Raptor. ;)

1. What do you mean? It comes with an instruction manual, otherwise it's just connecting the right coloured jacks to the right coloured inputs. Can't really go wrong there.

Ignore the optional speakers. Those are meant for 7.1.
2. Speakers look fine, but I saw talks of a 135 dollar soundcard. They're definitely not worth that. Get an Audigy 4, those are EAX compatible and work just fine for modern games.

If you ask me, for home entertainment, it's not worth spending a lot of money on it. Simply because you need certain types of walls and rooms to be able to get the best out of your sound system. Like a recording studio has. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think any audio enthousiast will tell you that..
IF you can't connect your speakers like they are shown on the picture, don't bother with surround sound. I once saw a certain person who had lined up all the speakers against the wall and the subwoofer somewhere at the other type of the room.
she dared complain about bad sound coming from the speakers and I smashed her head against the TV and then urinated on her open wounds for being such an idiot.
True story.

We have a huge Computer retailer called Best Buy...Electronics also.
Their Computer repair guys are called the Geek Squad.

Cant imagine working at a job that requires such a great deal of knowledge and being called a "geek".
And i dont see how that name appeals to anyone. We have Best Buy here too, but we also have thousands of small computer shops that all have labs where u can get anything done to ur PC.

the discount we get is wholesale price
example 150 dollar ipod speakers cost me about 50-60 dollars
BBY stock is liek a 50 a share its a huge company

Yea, Best Buy is huge.... It's like the electronics section of wal-mart, only really big and overpirced. Unfortunatly, its the only good place to get good stuff where i live.
If only we had a Fry's Electronics. That place is heaven.... *sigh*
One thing i will say though..... when someone goes into the store who actually knows what they are talking about, the person that works at best buy that is hepling you, gets all excited. Or at least that my experience. hehe

and i got the replacement plan so WHEN i blow them out i can get 5.1 + and upgrade or maybe even 7.1 speakers FOR FREE wooo
