Hi folks :D,
how does Group Policy Management Console relate to Active Directory? Is the first a sub-system of the latter? Is AD a bigger version of GPMC? Or an older version?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

GPCM is the Father...AD is the Son...
All Policies/permissions set in GPCM overrride anything you can do in AD.
However your query is confusing...Post more details on what it is you want to accomplish and we can go from there...

I came across an introductory YT video on how to customize a GPMC and I recognized it from my job, because I have one on my computer in my office. I use this GPMC to first find and then unlock user accounts and I am pretty sure that (some of ) my colleagues keep calling this console "AD" ....
They're probabyly just confusing these two ???...
So, you already gave me a good concise answer.
