Title: Getting svchost.exe encountered a problem error msg
Post by: beezus on July 28, 2009, 03:39:07 AM
Hi there  :)---I am so clueless at this  ??? We have Windows XP & I really don't know what to do & I'm not even sure if this is spyware or potentially dangerous--I'm keep on getting this svchost.exe encountered a problem error message during start-up--the only options I get though is "send error report" & "don't send"--- aside from this, I don't notice anything unusual with the function of the computer...

Last Saturday, I noticed this error message started to come up when I visited this site--marblemouth.com--an error message popped out (I think it's probably the same svchost msg) but it didn't close--& then another pop up appeared this time from AVG free, saying a virus threat was detected--Packed.monder virus so I decided to put it in the virus vault and then I emptied the vault. I uninstalled AVG since I searched that Avast is better so I installed that but after doing a bootscan & virus cleaner, it didn't detect any viruses...this error msg still pops out though at start up though---

I did notice that in my start up items (though I didn't check it before) I have this ikowin32.exe file there & no other details aside from date created--8/4/2004 & file size 22kb--could this be spyware?

Also, is it still ok that I'm accessing my emails? is this svchost.exe dangerous? I searched that it's needed in windows but that other spyware could mask as svchost--I really don't know what to do--what should be my next step please? I'm not even sure how to post that error report (it has a lot of items listed there but I can't copy it) I did notice that the error file keeps changing--it's something like this file would be included in the report: C:\DOCUM~1|Owner|LOCALS~1\Temp\d58b_appcompat.txt ---

thank you so much for reading this & for the help--looking forward to your reply--

In future, try to post your issues in ONE forum, malware specialists are in very short supply and having the same problem in multiple forums cause delays for everyone....these forums are manned by volunteers, so some delays must be expected.....

Post your logs and a specialist will review them......
