What OS is this? Vista? XP?
-
Disable "Restart on error" feature...
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab (Vista: click Advanced system settings).
3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.
You may see some error message. If so, post back what it says.
Also...
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel (Start>Control Panel in Vista).
2. Double-click System.
3. Click (Advanced system settings link in Vista, then --->)the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k).
...and...
Open Windows Explorer.
Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.
Vista users. You may need to copy .dmp files, paste them into some other folder, or desktop, and zip them there.

Doesn't sound like it's crashing, though. Sounds more like it's going into sleep or hibernation.

abotu the memory dumb one is it in smae palce as first set of steps and if so i mine doesnt' go taht low for the dumb
I'm sorry, but I didn't understand a thing.
-
What you told me to do for the frist set of steps was already done.
For
the secound set of steps I can't make the file dumb thing that small.
For the thing you told me to type into exploer did not work.
-
the secound set of steps I can't make the file dumb thing that small.
What do you mean by "make"?
All you need to do is:
In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k)..
For the thing you told me to type into exploer did not work.
Nothing to type.
Open Windows Explorer.
Expand C folder.
Expand Windows folder.
Click once on Minidump folder.
You should see some dmp files in the right pane.
-
I can't find any of what you put.
-
You can't find exactly what?
Remember, I'm not there. I can't see your screen.
-
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel (Start>Control Panel in Vista).
2. Double-click System.
3. Click (Advanced system settings link in Vista, then --->)the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.

i cna't find taht i think you put it in xp terms not vista
-
No, it has Vista instructions. Read what is in parentheses.
It's not that hard to read 4 lines CAREFULLY.
-
For small memory dump the options taht I have are
none
small memory dump (128) (which is what mine was on when I went to look)
kernel memory dump
only 3 options in the drop box the small dump directory is %SystemRoot%\Minidump
-
small memory dump (128) (which is what mine was on when I went to look)
Fine.
Proceed to Windows Explorer, and Minidump files.
-
When I type C:\Windows\Minidump folder in there isn't one

-
They're fine for laptop.
If you have more than one RAM module installed, try starting computer with one RAM stick at a time.
If you have only one RAM stick installed...
...run memtest: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic62524.html
-
I haven't messed wiht my comp at all so i guess there all the same and how do i only start one stick. and how do I know how amny I have?
-
Which model of HP Pavilion dv3500 is it?
Look at the label on the back of the laptop.
It should have 2 more letter after "3500".
The model I checked has originally 2GB of RAM installed (not 4GB like yours).
-
the product is a HP pavillon dv3500 but on the way bottom it says
dv3510nr
warrenty 1 year
-
OK. You have just 1 4GB module installed.
Run memtest.
Is this laptop still under warranty?
-
yea i would think i got for my birthday or chirstmas
-
so your want me to isntall the memtest then you want me to run it
-
In that case, I propose different approach.

Do NOT post any logs in THIS thread.
If your computer will check out as clean, I'd take advantage of the warranty.
We don't want to monkey around to void it.
