Title: Evolution of Graphics...
Post by: liambiscuit on March 29, 2009, 11:51:37 AM
I was just thinking --

30 or-so years ago... top of the line graphics was Pong.

Now we have Crysis -- http://innergoat.modacity.net/net/crysis_demo/Crysis_2304x1440_7950GT512mb_23_compressed.jpg

Isn't this a great amount of work and lines of code in 30 years?

Think what graphics will be like 30 years from-now. Then thirty years from THEN. Do you think it is possible for virtual realities to be better than the real world?

What i mean to say is that normal water = boring. But i SUUURE would drink a glass of Virtual Water.

And  would humans become too dependent on these virtual realities because "OMG RL SUKS"?

Just a few of my thoughts on Computers. Whadda you think?

Liam

P.S. One  word about SkyNet i swear to god...

You would not be able to drink virtual water. It wouldn't make sense.
For example, if you drank some water in a Star Trek Holodeck, the water inside your body will instantly dematerialize once you leave the room.

As for SkyNet from The Terminator, it appeared to be an Artificial Intelligence that used computers all over the world to operate, much like Folding@Home does. Hmmmm......  ::)

No need to think so far ahead. Just wait for five years and you will be amazed.

I don't care about graphics myself. I would rather play games for hours rather than play high-detailed eye-squabbing games for 40 minutes.

Here is a Pong game.

In 30 years it will still be the same.

So For to order the chip then you research the Circuit
And You go to the scrap box for parts as I do so Often
And for minimal amount you build the circuit & have
Your Happiness Not Only in what you have,
but also that you did it Youself
Satisfaction No ?

A circuit for what.... ???

Lol wow this got so off topic... =D --

-- And I'm not saying i like uber good 3D Graphics. Sure their nice, but me and an old game of TTD or some other dos game are just fine.

-- And I only wrote this because I was waiting on a download =D

-- And text-based still owns =D

We'll go with that.

4D = What? W axis, X axis, Y axis, and Z axis? Where does the W axis go? It's not possible to have 4 axis'.

OK. Every body Smile!     (|

A few years from now Graphic Displays will be of little interest to most people.

Example, When I was a child, a long time ago, we had innovations in the Movie industry to compete with Television. Stereo, Wide screen and effects you can not duplicate on a small screen. So after all these years only a few people now have huge projection TVs, which have been around for years.

And the Movie people are back into 3-D again.
Oh My! what will they think of next?
Free Popcorn? -No Way!

Because we live in a 3D world, we can't possibly contemplate what the fourth D is. If we can think of it, then it can't possibly be the fourth D.

The fourth dimension is Time.  The old master, Albert Einstein -- a moment of silence, please! -- conceived this nearly a hundred years ago.

Actually, we can.

Time, as Aegis said, is a dimension. The difference being that although objects can move freely in all three X,Y and Z axes, they move through time at a constant* speed.

The fact is, Time IS a dimension- it's a linear dimension just like X,Y and Z axes. difference being, as said, that it can only be moved through forward at a constant speed.

Time travel would allow one to have four degrees of freedom.

****nitpicker's corner*****

*Although gravity and velocity influences can impact how "constant" this is, from the reference frame of the object it is constant.

Actually the correlation of Time + Space is what supposedly creates the existence of a 4th dimension...without one or the other the concept is null and void.
Title: Re: Evolution of Graphics...
Post by: BC_Programmer on April 13, 2009, 06:39:56 PM
that's true.

I believe what helpmeh is driving at is the conceptualization of a 4-dimensional hypercube, and a universe that supports this fourth dimension. One cannot fathom what such a universe would appear as to one of it's inhabitants, being restricted to this lowly 3-dimensional universe of ours.

One can take the same concept the other way, for example, "flatlanders" takes the concept of being living in a 2-dimensional space trying to comprehend a third dimension.

Exactly. I was laughing with my friend when I described to him about what someone's brain would look like if it exploded after understanding that we're actually in the 12th dimension...
Title: Re: Evolution of Graphics...
Post by: BC_Programmer on April 13, 2009, 06:46:41 PM
here's the problem- these *censored* shows using the word "dimension" to represent parallel universes. confuses the heck out of everybody. Dimension is NOT a synonym for parallel universe, it's just a crappy colloquilism invented to ease the discussion of such.

Agreed...
There are far more parallel universes than there are dimensions...

Yes, it is a space-time continuum -- I keep forgetting!   ::)

The basic technologies have been around for thirty to forty years.

Mathematically it is a known fact and has been scientifically proven that there are at least 11, and perhaps as many as 22 dimensions in what is known as the 'Universe'

There is strong mathematical evidence for those models of the universe, but they've not been proved, yet.  This isn't merely pointing and saying, "You're wrong," Laska.  Brian Greene, in his book, "The Elegant Universe," states that he's excited because the research, as it develops, is proving the math models and predictions.

We're just not quite there, yet.    :)

Well, the whole quantum physics has turned Newtonian physics sorta upside down.  You have to hand it to Sir Newton, though -- he developed a system which explained the universe, and the calculus to go with it, and his system stood for over three centuries.

No, I meant they want martial arts games, but they don't want to practice martial arts.  They want sports games, but don't want to play the sports.  They want to play Guitar Hero, and not learn the guitar.

I could leave all that alone, but then too many of these people get in your face like they can beat you at the real thing!   ::)

but then i wondered sometimes when playing the game, how does one really get into the game if they don't have the real skills at times?

If they were making a video game from a movie, wish they'd keep the movie quality graphics instead of the cartoonish stuff at times. taht would be awesome.

They don't have to have any real skills for the type of game they are playing because it is just easier to hit a few buttons then it is to go thru the actual motions. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are perfect examples of this. You have little kids that brag about how they can own you and stuff when it comes to those games yet if you gave them the real instruments most of them would never be able to get even part of a note correct. On those games are you are doing is hitting a button at an appropriate time instead of actually having to hit the right cords and notes. there is a big difference in those games and the real live thing.

Yeah.

That's actually kind of like people that are really good at a First person shooter game, Like Doom or Quake or whatnot, and then somehow actually think they would be able to even fire a real gun.

Myself, I'm alright at such games, but probably couldn't fire a gun (except perhaps to save my life, then I might try a bit harder. like in one of those classic "struggle for the gun" scenes)
