switching out 2TB HDD for 2TB SSD
used Acronis - after much initial cloning difficulty (CHKDSK, SFC repair, DISKPART SSD drive clean), was able to get successful clone.
but now can't get past windows startup...i get as far as user logins (no sound), then within about 5 seconds BSOD
doesn't matter safe mode, boot sequence, etc. every time BSOD
if i hook original HDD back up, works fine.
totally lost. ran diagnostics from BIOS - everything checked good.
was too scared to tinker with much else....

Did you use the verify image in Acronis ? ?
-
thank you for reply - sorry, no i didn't.
i just followed instructions -after the 'successful cloning', which was basically turn off, unplug, remove old drive, install new clone, restart, done.
being that acronis will only run when i have crucial drive in, i just connected it right now using the sata to usb cable so i could open program.
i don't see any menu item for 'verify image' and couldn't find any similar sounding utility
using Acronis True Image for Crucial, Build 39200
lastly - i think this may be a 'thing' specifically with xps 8700 and crucial ssd - i came across two other 7 yr old web posts from others with virtually identical circumstance - one had no follow up thread; the other said solved due to intel iRST driver updates. i have no idea of whether i even have iRST drivers

All cloning apps i know of have a verify image tool...it compares the image sector by sector to the drive being cloned...You could try using Macrium Reflect which has a free Home version.

Yes the Intel iRST drivers cause problems with some makes of SSD's and are not necessary to have installed.
To remove the driver you will need to start windows in safe mode
Then follow the first section of this site
