Title: Changed case now xp / boot problem
Post by: pokerjk on October 25, 2008, 12:44:20 PM
Today i have just swapped cases with no hardware changes or anything.

When i go to boot it was coming up with the apologize screen select from safe mode etc. Everytime i selected an option it would just restart apart from once or twice it let me into safe mode for some od reason.

Once when i got in to safe mode i inserted my xp disk and tryed to "upgrade" the system so it would repair what ever might of been wrong not to lose any data i already had on my pc. It did what it had to do at first and then rebooted to contiue then i was getting m5228.sys is corrupted please press any key to restart. So then i thought my xp cd was bad.

I then tryed to load in the ultimate boot and recover cd and when i tryed to run it (cd is my first option for boot right now) it would just be like it was when i was trying to install xp go to "checking system config" then come up with the m5228.sys is corrupted please press any key to restart thing.

Realy dont want to lose any data as all my univeristy work is on it. Its a sata connection also btw.

Any help appreciated thank you.

Jamie.

Are you sure you're Booting from the CD?

How long is it frozen on the 'starting windows' screen?

Did you do a Repair Install?

Very early on in the setup process you will see a prompt for the SATA/RAID drivers..."Press F6 to install SATA drivers "
At this point insert the floppy/CD with the SATA drivers from the MBoard manuf. site.

Unfortunately since you have gotten this far trying to fix XP your data is probably long gone....

You should have hooked up the drive as a slave in a working machine to retrieve your data.

You can't "install SATA drivers from BIOS". A driver is a file used by Windows so it can use hardware.

I did read the thread. You can't install a driver from the bios. Computers don't work that way.
