Post by: mcrens on August 28, 2010, 04:48:16 PM
My PC will not connect to the internet . It  is connected directly to my router. My wireless is working great as my laptop is how I am connected now. All methods that I have tried have failed. AOL cannot fine a connection and when try Explorer, it tell me it cannot connect. When Explorer tries to Diagnose connection problems it asks me to verifly the current proxy server.
PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks,
mcrens

In IE go to tools/options/connections/LAN settings and uncheck "use proxy"

Re-boot.

PS...You're infected.

Thanks for the reply. I followed your instructions and it still will connect. In addition to your instructions I also
went to Tools ,options, advanced and reset internet Explorer settings.
However after re-boot it still will not connest. I hope I didn't mess up.
Do you have any other suggestions?

1. Click Start>Run (Start>"Start search" in Vista).

2. Type in (or copy and paste):

          cmd /c ping google.com>%temp%\$.$&notepad %temp%\$.$

      and press Enter.

3. Notepad will open.

4. Copy all text in Notepad ([Ctrl-A], then [Ctrl-C]), and then post it (paste = [Ctrl-V]) in your next reply.
