Title: 2 of 3 computers on network not connecting
Post by: kaigun on July 09, 2008, 02:36:10 PM
I have 3 computers in my home on the internet.

-Host is my wife's Japanese language XP SP2 connected via LAN cable from the ISP's modem and then to a belkin wifi router.

-My desktop is XP SP3 connected via belkin wireless card.

-My son's dell laptop XP SP3 connected via intel wireless card.

Last night weird things started happening. First my wife lost internet. My son and I were both working fine. Later my desktop couldn't get connected after I turned it off for a while. Laptop remained up on internet and fine.

This morning both wife's and mine are still down. Laptop using son's login connected with IE 7.0.5730.11 but not with FF 2.0.0.15. Changed to my login (administrator) and it connects with both browsers fine. Haven't gone to try son's login again because I'm afraid I'll lose what I have.

I checked all physical connections and unplugged both modem and browser and then powered up again. I'm at a loss here because of the mix of what's working and what's not. If it is the ISP nothing would be working. If it is the router then both the laptop and desktop would be down, but only the desktop is down.

Any ideas?  ???

Update: My wife got her computer to connect after restoring to point from last week. So now it's maybe some software problem?

Update again-answer is here: http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2008/07/09/ms_dns_patch_zonealarm_woes/

"MS DNS patch snuffs net connection for ZoneAlarm users" Zone Alarm firewall is on both desktops but not the laptop. Removed this windows patch and both desktops are fine.
