Title: COPY and COPY/PASTE with winXP
Post by: myming on June 17, 2009, 05:13:43 PM
hello all,

i need to COPY to print or COPY/PASTE to another site/email a LONG client privacy terms contract from a site.

when i right click and choose "select all">file>print preview>as selected on screen - it only shows the box, NOT what i've highlighted for it to print.
is there another way to open this box and print its contents ?

also, is there a shortcut using a control and a key for copying LONG documents ?

thank you.

Keep in mind that will create a graphic image of the content captured; it will not capture text as text.

How about: single click anywhere on page.  Ctrl+A to select all.  Go to favourite word processor and start a new document.  Ctrl+V to paste contents.

Got your message.  Here's what worked for me:

Scroll down until you see the box on the page.
Left click (and keep button held down) from the start of the text in the box - e.g. click in the space just above the first paragraph but within the box.
With button held down, drag mouse down to bottom of screen.
This should hightlight all the text in the box (and no other text).
Ctrl-C to copy to clipboard.
Paste into Word.

Does that work for you?  (I'm not sure what you're meaning when you said you "cannot open the box".)  If it doesn't work, I'm happy to attach the copied text here or to email it to you.

Oh and yes, I was born in GB - in Stoke-on-Trent, to be precise.

dear rob,

"cannot open the box" - bad choice of words.  cannot get to the text so i need to open
the box...
no, thank you for the advice, but i can't get ALL the text out.

i'd be very appreciative if you would email it to me !

thank you.

i'm from epping forest - the queen's hunt would tally ho in my "backyard" - ta!

I'm not totally clear on what you mean by the "box" but you might try this.  When copying into Word, use Paste As, from the Edit menu, and select Unformatted Text.  Does that work?

for browsers, when I've wanted to select all the text in a textbox, I simply go to the start, and press Control+Shift+End, and Ctrl-C.

dear soybean,

the "box" is a graphic that contains a client contract.  in order to read it you have to scroll down, but the text remains within the confines of the box.
i want to copy/paste/print it, but i can't.

thank you for your suggestion, but i didn't have a "paste as" option.

i did it the old fashioned way; after scrolling/highlighting i clicked "copy" under Edit, but lost
it between the net and "word perfect"...

Well, Control+C copies the text to the "clipboard" an area of memory that holds data for you. Once you have something on the clpboard, you need to "paste" it. In this case- you'll want to "paste" it into your wordperfect document. Control+V while your in your wordperfect document should plop the text into it, after you perform the previous steps on the site in question.

 ???

The windows Clipboard is part of windows...

I'm unsure as to what exactly your doing here that makes you believe the clipboard is on your disk- it isn't- there is nothing to search for.

bc_programmer,
when you explained the action of cntrl+c in conjunction with my problem i could not understand why the text did not go to my clipbook (clipBOOK in the corel program).
i thought that there had to be a problem with my clipbook...

i right clicked on start>explore>documents and settings>application data>corel.
in the past the clipbook was IN the corel file, but presently it is NOT in that file.

i am not a prodigy.  my simple mind told me to go and look for what was missing.
and, for me, the route to take was to "search" for it.
it's not where it's supposed to be - i don't know what occurred to make it exit where it's always been - it could be anywhere - so, i went foraging for it.
 ^-^
