Title: My RAM is being used for nothing
Post by: maximdymok on June 28, 2010, 05:53:41 PM
Well, not really for nothing. So i have a laptop, and its kinda slow when playing games. I have 2 GB ram but half of it is used for another user that's logged in-my brother. He does a lot of stuff and asks me not to log him off. But, he has so many programs open(usually just a lot of IE tabs+windows, like 20 tabs!!)that all of that takes near 1 GB RAM. Is there a way i can free that ram without logging the user off? Thanks.

Kind of sounds like you have two choices.  Either get more RAM or have your brother get his own computer.

Another solution might be for your brother to use Firefox.  When it launches, it can be set to open all previously open tabs,  Then you can log him off, and when he opens Firefox he is back to where he was before.

And you can use IE, or whatever you like.

There is nothing wrong with Vista and 2GB of RAM is plenty.

Some posters need to do more reading: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/09/why-does-vista-use-all-my-memory.html
