Title: CPU HELP
Post by: Crystal P. on March 30, 2004, 08:15:55 AM
Maybe someone can help.........I have an HP Pavilion XT983 Processor....I have not had the computer hooked up since December.  I connected it last night.  It worked fine for about 15 minutes and then just shut off with no warning whatsoever.  I turned it back on - it worked for about 5 minutes.  I thought it may be the outlet so I moved it to a different location and it still did the same thing.  Anyone know what may have caused this and what can be done to fix it? ??? ??? ???

Update virus definitions and scan for viruses and spyware.

The mblaster worm usually reboots the computer every five minutes, however it is still possible that it could be a virus. Additional information about mblaster can be found on the below link.

As Joleen and merlin recommended definitely make sure you have the latest up-to-date version of your virus scanner installed.

For a quick fix, download McAfee's Stinger program:

Then make sure to patch your OS (if it is Windows 2000/XP) with the appropriate version of the Microsoft patch outlined in KB823980.
