I use Thunderbird 2.0 for my email and I know there is a way to get mt Yahoo email account to download into it, but can't figure it out. Can somebody help?

Thanks for the suggestions Broni. I have had both Web Mail 1-2-3 and Yahoo 1-2-3 loaded in TB for a previous Yahoo account I usaed and it worked well. I since deleted that account and made a new one and since then I can't access it with TB. I get the error that
"Sending of password didn't succeed. Mail server localhost responded: negative vibes from [email protected]
I re downloaded both programs and restarted and tried again with same results.
Any other ideas?

Double-check with yahoo that the user name and password are correct...
Delete the account that does not work and start from scratch...using Broni's Guide.

I did some digging about that error, and I found couple of possible causes.
First, go to your Yahoo account, and make sure, you delete all old mail.

U might get message like, ‘ local host responded with negative vibes while sending Password’. There a couple of things you could try to fix this
* Make sure you have the domain name is included in the user name ([email protected])
* Sometimes this might happen when Thunderbird is trying to copy the mails from Junk Folder. Check the mails counts and if so , this can be safely ignored.
* Go to Extension Panel (Tools -> Extension) and Click on Find Updates. U might see a message Compatibility Update Applied’. If you see such a message this action might make a difference and make things better for you.
* Sometime this happens when the Mail server is not responding. You can check same by trying to connect to ur mail from a browser.
Also, does this problem occur while sending mail? Can you receive mail?

Boy, I must be having a brain freeze. I had a Yahoo account set up that always worked just fine. I used Web-mail & Web-mail Yahoo just like recommended. It's worked for years.
I recently decided to setup a new Yahoo account, but like a dummy I deleted the old one from TB without checking all my settings first.
Time to setup the new account with a new user name and BAM! A brick wall. I followed all of the suggestions from Broni's link to the letter with no results.
I must be doing something wrong in the setup process, but after 2 days of working on it I am getting nowhere.
Any other help anyone can offer. I think I'm getting desperate. I would be very grateful.

Don't be too hard on your yourself just yet. :)
There have been on going problems with the Yahoo extension for a while now. A couple weeks or more.
The Webmail extension author is aware of it, and working on it.
Here are a couple links that are worth bookmarking for the future.
Whenever anything begins to fail with regularity with Webmail/Yahoo/Hotmail extensions, just visit these.
Lurk about them for a couple days, and you'll get the latest, straightest story. :)

You can download the latest beta versions here, well before the update comes out via the automatic update function.
Up to you if you want to try a beta. :) Suggest you be sure that you have copies of previous versions on your hard drive, in case you need to revert.
Read some of the posts first, then decide.

When you open Thunderbird, click Tools -->Add ons
Select Webmail 1.3.2 ---> Preferences
Clcik on the Servers tab. Are the servers running?
And did you check "Enable at startup" ?
i don't know what OS you use, but in Linux Ubuntu you have to set the port to something higher than 1024.
I used 1025 and it works perfect.
I don't remember having to change the ports in Windows XP.
To change the ports, go to your account settings, and under the Yahoo account select Server settings.
There you can change the port number.

Astoria, yes I did check the servers and all are running and enabled at startup. I run WIN XP pro and TB 2.0.0.0.1.4.

When one of the extensions that has been working fine daily, suddenly quits working (after several tries, over time), I've learned that is a clue that something has changed on the other end. Hotmail changed something... Yahoo changed something....
Then there is a lag time while the Webmail developer figures it out and publishes a new update that fixes it.
If you know that it is not your fault, then it is only half as frustrating. :)
That's why I like to check those sources..... if I'm not the only one with the new problem, then it quickly becomes apparent.

If, after you've had time to go there, read, and decide what you want to try next - you happen to get yours working again, please do post back with whatever you did. It might help somebody else reading along here.
I think... not sure.... that if you try the latest beta release of the Yahoo extension, and experiment with going to the Yahoo website and entering your email account that way, there you can change your account back and forth between some sort of 'new' Yahoo and 'classic' Yahoo email. Then you match that with a setting within the config of the Yahoo extension.
Sorry that I can't be more clear - best to read it for yourself rather than my interpretation. :)
So far, it works for me. I hesitate to say more, because I don't use that account much at all.
Now, using T-Bird, it will log in and report no new mail, instead of failing.
I did send myself one test message, and it did download that. However, it also re-downloaded the little bit of old mail sitting there again. This was a one time thing... so far. In other words, it has not re-downloaded that old mail over and over again, it just did it the first time I used it (the new version of Yahoo extension)
I have sent myself a test email, using T-Bird with Yahoo. It worked.
That is the extent of my testing though.

Astoria, I tried your suggestions including changing the port in TB and Webmail. No success.
Willy I've installed the Webmail 1.3.4b33 and tried some of the other suggestions in the article. Notta.

In essence therefore, the problem is with the extension, in that something changed on Yahoo's end and the extension that worked fine for so long is suddenly out of date.
This is what is happening now, to all those people you saw posting in that google groups newsgroup.
I likewise don't use this account much, but just knowing it isn't working drives me crazy and I can't stopping trying to figure it out.

Sounds like you have tried a lot of different settings. I suggest you start from scratch, using that newest Yahoo extension.
I believe Broni above posted the links to the Webmail page. It has detailed , step-by-step instructions. Start at the beginning and go through them one at a time, and I'm thinking you will find success. I say that because it works again now for me, so I'm betting that the new extension will work for you too - once everything is set up correctly.

Well here's an update. I downloaded Yahoo-mail 1-3-4b33 and installed it. Didn't seem to do much. But then I switched on the Yahoo page to the Classic view, and the "negative vibes" error went away. I got one email then, but now again nothing since. Now when I switch from new Yahoo mail back to Classic Mail down in the status bar it says "host contacted Sending login information" The It'll say "downloading 1of 1 message". Then I get an error that the server localhost timed out. I get no message.
I can send messages without a problem.
Go figure. Anybody know of a good shrink? I think I'm going to have to talk this out soon. My head feels like it's going to explode.
I wish I could just let it go. Thanks for listening.

Do you have anti-virus software running all the time? If so, which one?
I seem to recall from that google group, that some posters there were having trouble with some virus scanners blocking their email now, and that this is something new.
Did you catch those comments there?

Willy, I use AVG and it seems to be no problem. I have tried to turn off the email scanner earlier and there was no difference.

seems to be backwards from what I would expect, I don't know what else to recommend.
I would have expected it to stop with the negative vibes when you switched
from the Classic view with the "Upgrade to the all-new Yahoo..."
When it is configured properly, it seems to work ok here.
You said you got "nothing since". This may sound silly, but was there more new mail there to get? :)

The only time I get a "time-out" error is when I try to download a message that has an attachment, and the size of the attachment is greater than 5Mb.
Maybe that's why you get a time-out error?
