Post by: Akshay Kulkarni on October 25, 2004, 10:02:06 PM
hi,

Please if anybody can help me.
I lost my document files as my Operating System WIN XP is reinstalled. Is there any chance of recovering them?

I would be really really grateful !

Thanks in advance !

Akshay Kulkarni.......One word answer is NO......however there are companies out there that do hard drive recovery.......its very expensive and from what I understand not 100 % sure.   When your hard drive was formatted ...was it scrubbed as part of the formatting procedure .

Hope this helps you .

Merlin_2 recently posted a post that contained some information about what programs to use... However, it did cost a lot of money. Someone was interested in sharing the cost, look for it.

Last thing to try is to go on cnet.com and download this file--FileRecovery. It's free. I don't know if it will help since your HD was formatted. But give it a try, you have nothing to lose, right?

Don't expect that all your files will come back, especially after such a large install (WinXP). If you're lucky you'll get some of it back. Hopefully you didn't lose anything too important, like the Soviet-bunker-plans-you-need-or-else-the-KGB-will-chop-off-your-feet type thing.

Next time, you should back up as much as you can onto a floppy disk/CD-R/DVD-R/Tape/Ferrite Drum or whatever you use before you reformat.
