I have a cd with 5 zip files on it, each file has about 10000 documents. it has been unzip and i was able to open files before on another computer.
I selected windows explorer to open files. (Which didn't work)
after I did that when I go to open main file, it try's to open files all at once.
after changing the setting to open with other software it did not fix the problem.
It still opens each file all at once. And does not work right.

Have you tried to copy all of the CD contents to a directory on the hard drive? \When using XP, it is better to have the files on your hard drive before you try to extract them.
Did you already search the Web for "Unzip files in XP" and follow the recommendations?
Here is the basic guide.
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/cf_extract.mspx?mfr=true
Here is details about issues. Has pictures.

You will also find you tube videos, i recommend reading the MS articles first, if lyou have not already done that.
This is the best I can offer without more information.

What app was used to zip these files ? ?
Did you try opening them with it ? ?
Barring that being the issue the way they were zipped along with the directory structure is why it's probably acting this way...

I am going to try to zip it or open it with win zip and see if that works.
