Title: How to setup a small utility USBvirusScan using command line for Antivirus scan
Post by: Narendra_000 on December 29, 2013, 06:21:13 AM
Most of us know about a small but powerful utility called "USBvirusScan" but this is a program for advance users and not for beginners .

"USBvirusScan" requires the Antivirus- scan (AV-scan) command as command-line argument.

you can find out about it here--
http://blog.didierstevens.com/programs/usbvirusscan/ (http://blog.didierstevens.com/programs/usbvirusscan/)

this program enable auto scan a usb media or any other removable media when inserted into computer and start antivirus scan for such removable media.

Although there are many antivirus programs available which perform auto scan removable media when inserted but some of antivius programe like "Norton Antivirus"does not support such feature. we have to manually scan for a particular usb stick or media.

I need help for that How to set command for "USBvirusScan" and enable Usb scan as soon as a usb stick is inserted into computer.

You can see a review of these set up if you can understand-

http://www.raymond.cc/blog/automatic-scan-for-virus-when-plug-in-usb-flash-drive/ (http://www.raymond.cc/blog/automatic-scan-for-virus-when-plug-in-usb-flash-drive/)

I need a command for "USBvirusScan" to unable auto scan usb stick or media through my Norton antivirus.

My antivirus Details for command parameter as follow--

loaction-->

C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton AntiVirus\Engine\21.1.0.18\Navw32.exe

I have added as attachment a copy of "USBvirusScan" you can download and see.

there are other command line for Norton antivirus--

Running a scan at the command prompt

You can scan with Norton AntiVirus from the command prompt without opening the Norton AntiVirus main window. You type the path and name of the file that you want to scan or customize the scan by adding a specific command. The following are some frequently used commands:

/?

NAVW32 launches help and terminates.

/A

Scans all drives

/L

Scans the local drives

/S[+|-]

Enables (+) or disables (-) subfolders scanning

/B[+|-]

Enables (+) or disables (-) boot record scanning and master boot record scanning (for example, NAVW32 C: /B+ or NAVW32 C: /B-)

/BOOT

Scans only the boot records

/QUICK

Runs a Quick Scan

/SE[+|-]

Enables (+) or disables (-) a Quick Scan

/ST[+|-]

Enables (+) or disables (-) scanning of stealth items

[folder_path]\*[?]

Scans the files that matches specified wild card

[drive|folder|file]

Scans the specified drive, folder, or file

/SESCAN

Performs Quick Scan in the background.

Norton AntiVirus displays the scans window only when a threat is detected.

To run a scan from the command prompt

At the command prompt, type the path in which Norton AntiVirus is located and the executable's file name.

The following examples show the syntax of a scan command:

"\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Engine\version\NAVW32" /command_name
Where version represents the version number of Norton AntiVirus and command_name represents the command.

"\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Engine\version\NAVW32" [path]file_name
Where version represents the version number of Norton AntiVirus and [path] file_name represents the location, name, and extension of the file.
Press Enter.

Please note that i need only a command which enable "USBvirusScan" to auto run my Norton antivirus scan for a usb stick or any other removable media when it is inserted into my computer.

Kindly help me and create  command line for my antivirus to run through "USBvirusScan" .

Hello, Narendra_000

Just want to say I looked over your post and I got lost.
Maybe others are either not interested in the idea or they think it is too hard.

What about a AV program that can  be put on a USB stick and run in any Windows PC?  It is called "Portable AV scanner" and some are found on free download sites.
