In IE8, hit the ALT key on your keyboard , a menu will show up.
Then click on the File menu. Look for a 'work offline'option - is it checked? If so, uncheck it.

What firewall are you using?

I'm glad you do, I was not underestimating your knowledge of computers though, we just like to start a thing from the very start here, keeps this systematic.

Ok, Now Run Internet Explorer in 'No Add-Ons' mode.

Go to ->Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools >Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)

Go to Connections tab and click the "LAN Settings" button at the bottom and check if all your settings are correct.

Also this might have something to do with the registry's , for that please wait for someone else to guide you.

Thanks

Well...i went to the site...i followed their instructions..untill..it stated, under the advanced .. that i was to clear enable offline items to be synchronised on a schedule box....Im using explorer 8.0, and there is no such box to clear.  When i booted  up this morning...the work offline  was not checked.  If you have any more articles i can go research...it would be much appreciated.  Thanks for your help. :)

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for that problem in IE8.
I suggest, you go back to IE7, or use Firefox.
