Title: GPU question
Post by: midnightfire on November 29, 2006, 03:23:08 PM
i was looking at getting a new graphics card for my POS compaq presario 6000, and i decided against it because it was hard to find a decent graphics card with my motherboard. But looking at everest i think i may be able to...

GPU Code Name      86c420  (AGP 4x 5333 / 8D04, Rev 00)

it says agp 4x in the code name....does that mean my 1 agp slot is a 4x slot?

im sorry

are you saying you are going to add a GPU onto your mobo or in a new system

Beacuse any AGP graphics card will work with any AGP slot

sorry forgot something....

Supported AGP Speeds      1x, 2x

it says this under the agp controller list in the chipset menu...and i'm slightly confused. it also says this under the gpu menu...

Graphics Processor Properties
Video Adapter      S3 ProSavageDDR (86c420)
PCI Device      5333 / 8D04
Bus Type      AGP 4x @ 4x
Memory Size      32 MB
GPU Clock      121 MHz

i think it's pretty much telling me that despite the fact that my agp slot can only handle 1x and 2x, my onboard graphics speed is 4x and is running as such.

Run the full Everest report and post it here. I think we are just getting snippets of the info needed to properly advise.

You have onboard video but an AGP slot so an AGP video card would work as long as the power requirements are not too great.

Here is a similar thread. The same advice applies:

That is probably a 4x slot with a processor of that vintage.

As a matter of fact, look here:

Make sure you have enough power. Compaq's are notoriously underpowered. Also notice that it says:

AGP 4X (1.5V only)
