I have a total budget of $600.00 to spend on a new laptop. I can't go over. I must have Windows 7 or 8 OS, and would like Microsoft Word (but all of Office is not necessary).
Please keep in mind that durability is the key here! I still have a PC from 1999 that operates effectively although it is extremely slow compared to today's models. I have only fixed that computer for viruses so have not needed parts even.
So, with the first paragraph in mind, which laptop is built to last the longest?

Well, what was the none you had?
I will guess nit was an IBM think pad.
Now Lenovo, still a great choice.

About $500.
You said reliability, that is what you get. No frills. Any effort to improve performance either ups the price or dips the quality.
