Title: how to play android apps on windows xp?

i want to play android (.apk) applications on my pc so there is any method to play such as android emulator.

I recently installed Android 2.2 x86 to a Virtualbox virtual machine on Windows XP. All free as well.

I use the SDK for app development, but I find it a bit laggy. Doesn't work as smoothly as a real phone does. Haven't tried Bluestacks yet.
