Title: Computer shutdown

I have a computer with XP this computer is about 5 years old. it shuts down on its own then has a continue beeping to it. what can cause this. is it the CPU or maybe power supply. how do i go about diagnosing this problem.

What BIOS has your computer got?.

Try to reset you CMOS. this is done by Moving a little small plastic head called jumper, located oftest just below your graphiccard(check MB manual otherwise) to the right(oftest) After 30seconds move it back and try boot up again.

Also make sure no dust or anything is preventing the system from cooling, since many computers shut down themselves when they are too hot.

Thanks for the quick replies, i took my air compressor and blew out all the dust under the fan on top of the cpu. this seems to fix the problem. I will have to see how it works as time goes on.
