Title: 2nd try, Please help! Stuck in Log-on/Log-off Loop. Need to Log in
Post by: headclerk on February 26, 2010, 10:29:03 PM
Copy of original post:

My daughter's EEE PC Netbook 1005HAB (No Optical Drive) picked up the infamous Internet Security 2010 virus with all of its annoying popups.  I ran Malware Bytes and upon reboot (as the program asked), the PC got stuck in a Log-on/Log-off loop (log in, brief flash of desktop background, log off) and is no longer able to log in.  No luck in safe mode either.  She doesn't have backup of all of her school work (another sore subject) so a clean wipe isn't an option at this point.  Any guidance to be able to once again log in and clean any remaining problems would be very much appreciated.  I work swings so replies may be odd hours.  Thanks, Gary

More info as of 2/26:

The netbook runs XP.  Since the original request ran a week with 36 views and no responses, I thought I'd give up and just pull the hard drive and save all important data via a USB/SATA cable.  The problem with that idea is this netbook requires a complete disassembly (remove keyboard and crack cases, remove cables, heatsinks , etc.) to access the HD and I really am not feeling it.

Any way to access the drive via network (Cat cable hardwire) from another PC over a network even without being able to log in?  Know how to make a bootable USB Flash Drive so I can replace the messed up startup files?  I'm not a complete idiot, just need a jumpstart to get going again.  Thanks in advance, Gary
