I have no clue were to file this but. I had typed in some code from a book to my c64 but I ran save"INT",8 to save it to a 5 1/4 disk then tried to call it up doing a verify"INT",8
-
So what's the problem?
-
the program doesnt save on to it comes back as invalid or syntax error
-
Question, why do you need a C64?
-
Squall - you will probably get more info on a dedicated C64 forum such as is listed here (http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=commodore+64+forum&btnG=Google+Search&meta=)...

Thanks, cause its a good tool with out all the vlights bells and wishtels that show how machines work an that what there capable of and such. Plus that and that you can still say that you have one that works and that you still use it,

What can you do with a computer that has 64KB of memory?

What can you do with a computer that has 64KB of memory?
The same things you could do when it was first introduced. The function of a computer doesn't reduce with age. Only the perceived usability.
-
exatly but everything is on one board which makes things easier like seeing the board traces were the data gores an such.
-
In short- it's a educational exercise. After all- as far as we've come, the technology is still too similar to dismiss.
Now a device using Vacuum tubes... that would be a different story. ;D

But, they won't run newer software. You do so much more with higher powered computers. My first computer was a Commodore 64. Technology marches onward and old computers and other technological devices quickly become obsolete.
I would agree the old systems have some noststalgic value. If space were not an issue, I think I'd like to still have that Commodore 64, as well as a 286 and a 486 that I got rid of.

they won't run newer software, but most basic tasks (word processing, small databases, etc) can be handled fairly well. Of course web browsing and such is right out.
the C64 is probably a dated example, though.
In fact- here is another interesting tidbit- a certain NES cartridge for the japanese Nintendo famicom "family computer", was called "family BASIC" and provided many features that could be found on the c64- it included a keyboard, and you could save programs to SRAM. Of course marketing here was towards the fact that it was an "Entertainment System" which means a lot more today then a gray toaster NES ;D

we make a jump from there.

we make a jump from there.
kind of goes without saying...

To say the truth, I've never seen, or used a C64. Do own an old socket 7 486 Shannon Commercial PC though. Can't get it to post sadly. It seems to support SIMM's and early DIMM's too, the DIMM slots look like SDRAM, but it isn't, the clips are too low to properly seat SDRAM. I also have a working Atari XE system from the early 80's, and a working NES/SNES/N64. Got nothing for any of 'em though, few games for my N64, gun for the NES, and that's about it. I got the keyboard for the Atari XE though, the old joystick controller won't work though. Not sure why, I pulled it apart, checked it, looks fine, guess its just old.
Speaking of vacuum tube stuff, a friend of mine in Florida scored this 60 or 80W (can't remember which) tube based Audio Research amplifier/preamp from a friend of his. The amp was made in '79, and audio research still makes stuff using tubes to this day. Check there website, pretty cool equipment.
Oh, and there's a stereo that was bought in 1969 downstairs in the dining room. Old Delmonico stereo, grandma bought it new in '69 before moving to Florida, she gave it to her mother before moving, then got it back after her trip to Alaska shortly after they moved back here to Virginia. Anyway, the stereo is mint, turntable don't work, but the AM/FM tuner works, sounds pretty good. Its uh, 60W I think, don't think its ever been serviced. Its even still got the stringy thin cord with the non polarized plug. I'd like to get my hands on it to fix it, and I think I'd replace that cord 'cause I don't trust wiring that's nearly half a century old. I nearly had an old lamp electrocute me 'cause of an old frayed cord with rotted shielding. But that's another story, for another day.

I like the title....
Basic C64 issue....
-
I think he means because it's the c64 BASIC... but he got them backwards... it should say "C64 BASIC issue".
-
seeing the board traces were the data gores an such.
So that's where it goes. I always wondered about that.
-
no no, it gores there, so it explodes into a little pile of electronic giblets. I've always wanted to see data gore itself.
-
I've always wanted to see data gore itself.
Gore, or Core? They're two different things. One of them I don't particularly recommend you watching....
-
Well, I'll have to get a C64 I guess, since as Squall says that's where the data gores...
-
no i ment what I posted this was probably a problem that they all had at one point or another. The thing is that it saved the data I issued it to do that command an seen it happen.
-
still strange i formatted the disk and even saved a small part of code that I had done. I just told it to print"" an save what it spat out an everything but it wouldnt load or anything.
-
and where are you saving this to? are you sure the disk drive/ cassette works properly?
-
They were famous for being unreliable in the 1980s, so God knows what one would be like now, especially if has not moved in years.
-
might explain the "goring"... ::)
-
ah I see, i'm attempting to save it to a disk. wish I had the tape drive mite work better?????

I use a Sansui AU-505 amplifier from 1973 every day. I bought it in 1990 for 15 UK pounds from a guy who had bid for it at an auction as part of a mixed lot. He didn't know what it was, thought it was junk. I use it with a modern CD player and Eltax floor standing speakers and it sounds great.

The Commodore 64 disk drive was the target of an early virus, one of the few that could actually cause hardware damage. The virus worked by repeatedly causing a disk seek beyond the last track, banging the head arm against its stop over and over again, eventually bending it microscopically but enough to put it out of alignment so the drive became useless.
-
so you think i should try another drive? i have like five or so.
-
i have like five or so.
Why do you keep writing "like"? ::)
-
cause it gives an approimate and I kind of got stuck useing that for a while for some reason.

You would get on well with my son, who is also stuck like that. ::)
-
I ment to say that it gives an number close to that. woh man by the way you talked I thought you were younger then me..... :o

ah I see, ment to say that but it kind of messed up my typeing. Figured he was the oldest it would take a while to make the site for one.
-
Speaking of Age, how old is this topic now?
LOL
-
Broni is the oldest Member here...
He's 97 on St Patrick's Day this year.

Are you serious! That's old for a orange bear. That is what he looks like, right? a Bear?
Come to think of it, it would be awesome to have a pet bear. just have it follow you around.
"hey, you can't bring that bear in here."
"If you like your face attached to your skull I can."
"um... okay then. Nice bear you got there sir!"
you can do whatever you want! break the rules!
"I'll get a breakfast sandwich, and put onions on that would you."
"I can give you onions on the side, we're not allowed to put it on for some reason."
"GRRRRRRRR"
"it's ok, Bron... I mean, Bear- this bear get's angry really fast- so I recommend you put onions on his sandwich."
of course, I'm sure there's worse stuff you could do, like take him into bars and start fights. Then just have the bear rip them apart. It could become it's own sitcom, "my pet bear and me" starring Kelsey Grammar. I'd watch that.
wow. weird how I went' off-kilter there, but I suppose that's my trademark.

I thought that Dias was? So he thought any way I may know a person who can help. make that persons. thanks for the aid ;D
-
Not sure what you said, but okay. ;)
-
oh sorry thought it would get around the oldest person on here.
