I've got this laptop that has win vista on it and would like to change it to xp. I've got a re-installation cd of windows xp with service pack 2 home ed. by Dell. And my laptop is a Dell xps. The installation cd came from my desktop Dell dimension 2400. Is it easy to do this?

You can't do that.
First, you need to check your computer manufacturers website to see if they have XP drivers for your computer. Then, if they have drivers and you still want to install XP, you will have to buy an XP CD with a license key.

I've got the license key. But I'll go to the laptops manufacturer's site and check for those drivers. Thanks!

1) Why would you want to do that?
2) If you are going to install XP you should use sp3. SP2 is no longer supported.
3) The way to do what you want is to boot to the XP CD, format, and then install.

I don't need to wipe out the hard drive? I mean, remove vista?

Unless you are going to dual boot then yes, you must format the drive to install an older OS.
