Hi
iv recently built a pc and it wont pass the system p.o.s.t (POWER ON SELF TEST) everytime i turn it on. i would say 5 out of 10 times it works, and boots into windows. but when it doesnt work.. all the fans are running, everything is on but nothing comes up on my monitor and theirs no beap. sometimes i can reset 10+ times and it wont work.
as soon as i clear cmos it works :-? :-? :-?. i get into windows and things are gravy, i can play games, do anything without a prob. but as soon as i restart the system or turn it off and on again... it often goes blank and doesnt boot. cant even get into bios.
I cant think what it can be >:(. I have updated the bios which made it a little bit better in terms of passing the post but still fails alot.
Everything is plugged in properly in the proper sockets. I have Phoenix-Award BIOS which im crap with. I dont undrstand most of it.
This is me setup
Power supply: Enermax Noisetaker 535W EG565AX-VE(W)
Mobo: Asus A8N-SLi SE
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3700+
Ram: Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2
GC: XFX GeForce 7600 GT 256MB
Antec SLK3000B Midi Tower Case
Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 80GB
Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 CPU Cooler

First of all i would reseat your Graphics card and Ram or if you have 2 sticks of Ram i would take one out to test for faulty Ram. If you have another Graphics card try this aswell. Is your monitor working ok, do you have another machine you can test your monitor on.
-
what do you mean reset graphics card and ram??
I have tried both sticks on their own. monitor is working fine
-
I said" Reseat take them out and pop them back in again. blow out any dust you see.
-
Try the above first. Is your internal speaker working? this would help in determining any beeps, or do you have some other way of diagnostics like led lights. To test if your internal speaker is working remove your Ram and boot your pc, do you hear any beeps?

i took the ram out and turned it on... 1st time it didnt do anything like the how i explained in the 1st post, 2nd time i just beaped.
the ram deffinetly isnt causing it
same with the graphics card and cpu
i think its either the motherboard or powersupply, but which one :@
its just odd that it works if i clear cmos...
-
Well the CMOS is on the motherboard, and if you are limiting it to that or the power supply....
-
:-? :-? what
-
im pretty sure he meant to say the CMOS is on the motherboard, and if its the motherboard or the power supply causing the issue, its probably the motherboard.
