Post by: dede on November 23, 2006, 01:13:34 PM
I found a program "instant update reminder.ink" related to my us
robotics modem & wonder if that could be popup icon "reminder"
appearing from time to time on bottom of my pc toolbar or do you think it is a bug?  while running
ccleaner i also found the following currently installed programs that i don't recogni8ze,
does anyone know if these are useful programs or spyware?:  1) Shockwave, 2)
VBA, 3) WAP11 USB, 4) SafeCast Shared Components?

I just read the computer hope fourm link to safe computing & wondered if spysweeper would be best the best choice of spyware/virus protections program to match currently installed ccleaner slim, windows defender & norton antivirus to protect my ms windows xp sp2 256 mb ram pc which only has 1.31 gb free space on c drive?

1) Shockwave, Shockwave flash player
2) VBA, Visual Basic App
3) WAP11 USB, USB wireless access point
4) SafeCast Shared Components?  I'm not familiar with this one. Probably OK

What does the popup reminder say ? ?

Sounds harmless, check for options in the modem software to turn it off.

patio, you said to: check for options in the modem software to turn it off.----how do i do that?

the "reminder" icon popped up when I logged on to the pc today & was trying to save a picture of it w/ ctrl alt prt scrn when it disappeared.  if i remember correctly, it pops up on bottom of tool bar sometimes when i log on & options are to open or close w/ no other identifiers & no properties. what is this critter?

You could give RogueRemover (http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php) a try, it scans for and removes rogue programs that anti-virus & anti-spyware programs do not recognise as threats.

We would be able to help you more if you could tell us more about this popup.
