This started trying to install the driver that allows me to use my PS3 controller on my computer., I tried it on a program that worked fine on my last computer. After a lot of frustration and failure, I decided to try to reinstall the driver which is libusb-win32.
When I went to programs to uninstall it, it said there was a problem and it removed it from the installed programs list in control panels. When I tried to run the installer again it said an old version was installed and I have to uninstall it first. I cannot figure out how. I even opened up search and deleted a few files that seemed to be associated with it, but it still tells me the same thing.
I found a post another forum that recommended to track it down in services and stop it there and delete the files. I cannot do this since there it was already stopped, and the files they say to delete do not exist. Any help would be appreciated.
-
Try Driver Sweeper: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
-
I don't see how this helps me remove a driver. Even if it was updated I still have to reinstall, since deleting files related to it probably nerfed it anyways. To reinstall I need to remove it. And it would cost me $30.
-
What exactly will cost you $30?
-
From what I understood that software you linked me to.
-
It's free.
-

Removing the Device Driver
The device driver can not be removed from the system. Windows doesn't offer any option to do this
-
So nothing can be done?
-
Did you check Device Manager?
-
And or remove/uninstall it in safe mode.
-
I cannot remove it because I cannot find it.
-
Start/Search libusb-win32 and hit Enter...
Again do this in safemode.
-
Have you even tried Driver Sweeper?
-
Nothing comes up on search safe mode or not, and all driver sweeper does is tell me it cannot create a file because access is denied. If the driver cannot be removed, it would help to know what files i need to have to where it is supposed to work again so I could dodge the installer, because it just tells me the same thing no matter what I do.
-
Run the program as Administrator.
-
Same result.
-
Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download)
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
Install, and run it.
Post HijackTHis log.
-
if it shows in device manager right click it and try the update the driver software option if you have the driver on your desktop point to it

No libusb in device manager.
-
OK, couple of things.
I wasn't aware, you're running 64-bit version of Vista.
HJT is not very useful here, since it's not fully compatible with 64-bit system.
Secondly, judging from the driver name: libusb-win32, it's 32-bit driver, so it doesn't even make sense to reinstall it.
You must be looking for 64-bit driver (if it exist).
-
No libusb in device manager.
Click View>Show hidden devices.
-
I found a forum that tells me how to get libusb to work on 64 bit vista, but again it involves using the installer which is still impossible. You would think there would be a way to chase down the remnants of the original installation and delete them or at some way to purge it or at least find out where they are.
The device manager turned up a lot of things when I showed hidden items. But not a one of them had anything to do with libusb.

Download avz4.zip (http://z-oleg.com/avz4.zip)
- Unzip it.
- Double click on AVZ.exe to run it.
- Run an update by clicking the Auto Update button on the Right of the Log window: (http://rathat.geekstogo.com/images/AVZupdate.jpg)
- Click Start to begin the update
Note: If you recieve an error message, chose a different source, then click Start again- After the update, from the "File" menu, choose "Standard Scripts"
- Put a check next to item 2: Advanced System Investigation
- Click Execute selected scripts
- At the next prompt, click the OK button
- Let the scan run and click "OK" when the completion prompt pops up
- Now Close out of the Standard Scripts window, and exit AVZ
- Navigate to the avz4 folder and locate the folder LOG
- Inside the LOG folder you will find virusinfo_syscheck.htm and virusinfo_syscheck.zip
- Attach the compressed file, virusinfo_syscheck.zip, to your next reply.
-
Here you go.
[attachment deleted by admin]
-
- Close all windows then double click on AVZ.exe
- Click File > Custom scripts
- Running script window will open
- Copy & paste the contents of the following codebox in the Running script window
begin
SetAVZGuardStatus(True);
SearchRootkit(true, true);
DeleteService('libusb0');
DeleteService('libusbd');
BC_DeleteFile('C:\Windows\system32\libusbd-nt.exe');
BC_DeleteFile('C:\Windows\system32\drivers\libusb0.sys');
BC_ImportDeletedList;
ExecuteSysClean;
BC_Activate;
RebootWindows(true);
end.
- Note: When you run the script, your PC will be restarted
- Click Run
- Restart your PC if it doesn't do it automatically, and post back with a new HijackThis log.
After restart, the driver, and all its services should be gone.
-
My problems seem to never end.
After I click run after pasting into the box I get what looks like some cyrillic letters and a message telling me the program has stopped working.
-
This started trying to install the driver that allows me to use my PS3 controller on my computer.
You can buy usb game controllers at your local department store. Some look exactly like playstation controllers. I got one at Walmart for fifteen bucks.
Have you tried doing a system restore to before you installed the driver?
-
Run it one more time.
-
I tried it 9 times.
-
Change the script to:
begin
StopService('libusb0');
DeleteService('libusb0');
StopService('libusbd');
DeleteService('libusbd');
BC_DeleteFile('C:\Windows\system32\libusbd-nt.exe');
BC_DeleteFile('C:\Windows\system32\drivers\libusb0.sys');
end.
If it won't work, we'll go for manual removal.

I also got some error message about access denied in repairing something in hijack this. I tried the installer after using avz, (which told me it worked time as far as I can tell) but got that same uninstall old version first message.
-
I think I should also state I appreciate the responses and attempts to help my problem.
-
Now, wait a second.
Don't do two things at the same time, because you're gonna mess something up.
I didn't ask for HJT log.
All, I asked was to re-run AVZ with new code:
- Close all windows then double click on AVZ.exe
- Click File > Custom scripts
- Running script window will open
- Copy & paste the contents of the following codebox in the Running script window
begin
StopService('libusb0');
DeleteService('libusb0');
StopService('libusbd');
DeleteService('libusbd');
BC_DeleteFile('C:\Windows\system32\libusbd-nt.exe');
BC_DeleteFile('C:\Windows\system32\drivers\libusb0.sys');
end.
- Note: When you run the script, your PC will be restarted
- Click Run
- Restart your PC if it doesn't do it automatically, and post back with a new HijackThis log.
-
I did that first (avz) and did not run Hijack until after restart, which I had to do manually. So I would not think it would make any difference as I changed nothing in regard to hijack.
-
If the above doesn't work, right click on AVZ.exe, and click "Run as Administrator".
-
Ran it as administrator. Nothing changes.
-
AVZ stops working, or what? Any error message?
-
AVZ worked with the second codebox. It said it worked anyway. After restarting, the installer still tells me the same message that an old version must be uninstalled first when i try to use it. I reran avz as an administrator, and it succeeded again. I restarted and tried running the installer as an administrator again, but got the same message.
Edit-By installer I mean the libusb installer.

Give me fresh AVZ log (reply #23).
P. S. I'm close to going to bed, but I'll be around tomorrow.

Open Windows Explorer. Go Tools>Folder Options>View tab, put a checkmark next to Show hidden files, and folders.
Navigate to C:\Windows\system32, and delete libusbd-nt.exe file.
Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\drivers, and delete libusb0.sys file.
Restart in Normal Mode.

I type in what you say at the command prompt and it says access is denied.
-
Did you:
Hold CTRL+SHIFT, and hit Enter
It's important. This way you run cmd as administrator.
