Title: Help! Blue screen and Xp not working properly! :(
Post by: lightslayer on December 07, 2009, 01:44:18 AM
I got a BAD_POOL_HEADER blue screen so I followed some instructions on how to fix it from another forum and this is what is said

Quote:
Thanks for your help. A friend of mine told me he had the same problem and sent me to this page

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];q314060

which had the following steps;

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

7. Restart your computer.

This fixed the problem and I was able to do this from the "safe" mode.

It told me to delete a few things, but I tried to do that but I don't think I deleted it, however my next course of action was to remove a LINKSYS  Cisco G adapter

After that my internet didn't work so I restarted it and won't boot past WINDOWS XP loading screen

Then I defaulted the BIOS and tried to go into safe mode, but wouldn't work.

I am hooked up to a DYNEX TV, so I started it VGA mode using the ol' F8 trick. Then it does load the desktop, however my mouse and keyboard will not work so I cannot go into MY COMPUTER properties like everyone says. The desktop isnt frozen because I see the clock ticking in the bottom right hand corner.

Update: I tried pressing the F1-12 keys and it seems those are active, however I cannot use any other parts of the keyboard

I assume you're trying to regain the ability to boot and use the operating system (preferably in both "Normal" and "Safe Mode").

Is this a USB keyboard and a USB mouse?

Get a PS2 keyboard to troubleshoot...

Everyone should have one...

I am using both USB and wireless.

Considering a career in politics?  While the above may be a "true" statement, "clear" it is not...  I'll leave you to ponder that...

Standard operating procedure (SOP) is to troubleshoot using a PS/2 keyboard.  Mouse is optional (as long as your keyboard navigation skills are up to par).

Do the <tab>, <Enter>, and <arrow keys> also work?

Does your system require you to enter user_name and password to get in?
