Title: Power saving mode.
Post by: dsykesbrits on December 22, 2008, 10:56:51 AM
Good afternoon. New computer user and member here. We are looking for some help in trying to determine what is going on with our Dell Optiplex GX270 desk top computer. It has Windows XP Professional installed. The problem is that when it is turned on the Dell logo appears and then it goes immediately goes into power saving mode.  When this happens you cannot turn off the CPU using the power button on the tower so the only alternative is to disconnect the power supply. We then reconnect the power and repeat this process numerous times before it will continue booting up. Additionally during use after being in use for a short while it will shut down and the power saving mode message appears and the only way to get it back up is to repeat our start up process. Ths problem started during this past week, there has been no new hard or soft ware installed.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

How old is this computer? Is it new?

If so, I would get it replaced (for free) using the reciept or warranty.

The Dell is about 5yrs old. Additionally it now won't even do as described in original post. We are beginning to think that the problem may be terminal (no pun intended!!)
