Title: Sound driver for Windows 7 "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio"
Post by: dworley on March 08, 2011, 03:50:52 PM
Hi there,

I have a Dell GX620 that I just upgraded to Windows 7. All of the drivers loaded fine with the exception of the sound card. I have an identical computer that is running XP right next to it, and took a look at the sound card driver info there. Here's what it gave me (more info available if necessary on request):

SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
Driver Provider: Analog Devices

Dell doesn't have the driver, SoundMAX doesn't give drivers, searched high and low on the internets. I tried a few likely workarounds (try the XP driver, try the drivers from similar models), all failed. Anybody have an idea?

Thanks,
-darryl

Did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before upgrading?

Problem solved.  The driver was available in Windows Update as an optional install.

I feel stupid.

Glad you got it fixed...
However Windows Update should be the last choice for Driver updates...
