hi all.please excuse my ignorance as i am not a leading computer expert!i have windows XP and have recently upgraded my IE6 to IE7.have been using firefox for a while now but needed IE7 to view some sport.my problem is that whilst i can still here my music on itunes, i cannot here anything else.if i try to listen to a song on youtube e.g i just here a white noise/slight crackling coming through speakers.i have searched everywhere to get a solution but none have worked.a friend recommended you gave me your address.if anyone can help it would be appreciated.
there is no sound at all coming from the computer i.e pop up noises or anything.
-
Have you check Volume Control? (double click the speaker icon near the clock)
Make sure everything is up and not muted.
You mentioned that you could hear music on itunes. Can you still hear it?
-
yes as normal.all volume control buttons i know of are on.i have also checked device manager, everything working as normal.you can hear a slight fuzz?! when you try to play a piece of music but as i say all the normal sounds you are meant to hear like games etc dont happen.
-
Let's clarify.
No sound in IE. Do you have sound in FF?
No Windows sounds, but there is a sound from iTunes, right?
Can you play music CD?
-
hi thanks for replying.no probs with itunes.as i say problem seem to happen after i upgraded my IE.IE6 had been causing me problems for a while so i started using FF.was using FF for last year or so.it has worked fine.always used to check IE to see if any improvement.was offered upgrade to IE7.done it.unable to hear sounds since.as i say i can play itunes and limewire no probs but no sounds at all on IE or FF.media Player also plays no probs.

Download no_sound_in_browsers.reg (http://z2.invisionfree.com/ComputerHelp/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=4141692) file to your desktop.
Double click on it, and allow registry merge.
Restart computer.
-
tried it.message comes up saying windows cannot open file.went into site and done a search.cant find download anywhere.
-
You didn't follow, what I said.
Download the file, and double click on it, or right click on it, and click "Merge".
-
cant download from link.box coming up saying "run"when i do nothing happens.
-
I'm attaching that file to my reply. Unzip it.

You're not allowed to give in...
Have you tried different speakers ?
Do Windows notification sounds work ?
Do you have a link to this site where you have no sound ?
-
unzipped it
Wait a sec. After unzipping, double click on no_sound_in_browsers.reg file, and allow registry merge.
Restart computer.
-
will it merge automatically or do i need to something(apart from double clicking the file)
-
You can also right clik and select merge...
Nothing further needs done except a re-boot.
-

-
Un-install iTunes software using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel...

Did you merge that fix with the registry?
Did you restart computer?

I suggested Un-installing iTunes to see if it was part of the problem here...
Are you sure the registry merge file Broni sent was done properly ? ?

Re-reading his instructions and doing it again will cause no harm at all...

That registry fix is provided for exact case like yours, so I was really surprised, it didn't work.

Strange....
So you download this to desktop:
http://z2.invisionfree.com/ComputerHelp/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=4141692
Right Click the .reg file on the desktop and go to Merge.
If there is no Merge, Right Click and go to Properties and can you tell us what it is?
