Title: Vista Service Pack 2
Post by: Accessless on June 08, 2009, 02:10:24 AM
Has anyone else encountered reduced performance as a result of installing Vista SP2? I've heard of driver problems, usually centralised around the network ports, that have forced people to update their drivers. I had to update my LAN drivers to restore performance (actually I think that it may be a bit better than before SP2).

no I've not had that problem. Well, wouldn't you normally want latest drivers anyway? (unless you've tried it out and it doesn't work for some odd reason)

I have to agree with 2X never had any problems and as he said updated drivers can be a good thing. Could there be any other reason for poor performance, are you keeping up to date with system maintenance in general (disk cleanup, defrag, check your start up programmes or even check your free hard drive space) I know very obvious things but the easiest answer can sometimes be the correct one.

Everyone's problems were fixed either after updating drivers or reverting to SP1. I think that the problem is clear. But I'm also interested to know whether or not it is just LAN drivers causing problems or others too.

there's always going to be problems. When a new patch or collection of patches come out, there will always be at least one person who will not be able to use it.

only problem I had, was it changed some of my power settings for some reason. changed them back, and no other issues.

Well it's not the worst statistic because were all saying more or less yes it's good.

You do realise that what I'm complaining about is minor. i.e. some programs take a couple of seconds longer to load e.g. fire fox. I just think that I get better performance without SP2. According to beta test reports, some aspects of windows were improved others worsened.

Mine, feels the same to me. If The PC had updated to SP2 silently, I would have never known.
