Title: Currupt Audio Drivers
Post by: Accessless on October 19, 2018, 10:18:27 AM
Hi guys, I've encountered a new and bizarre problem that's vexing me.

Every couple of months I get the issue of audio stuttering (also causes visuals to stutter with audio). I initially had this a while ago and to cut a long story short it turned out to be caused by a corrupt audio driver. Delete, reboot, re-install, fixed... or so I thought.

The issue keeps coming back after a few months. It's a 5 minute fix but why does this driver keep corrupting? I have no other data or driver issues, no driver updates (it's an old mobo, the latest driver is from 2015) & all memory checks out fine (RAM + HDD)

Frankly I'm at a lose.

From what you stated i wold suspect the hardware rather than the drivers...

I know right!?

But why does the driver re-install fix it?

Ok, it has been some time since the last blip but I had a thought with this latest one. Re-installing the audio drivers alone does not resolve the problem. The only way to fix the problem is to uninstall drivers, restart then re-install.

My suspicion now is that Windows itself periodically alters something that causes the breakdown. The problem also only occurs after the system has been switched off or rebooted, it doesn't develop spontaneously.

I agree with Patio.
A hardy tool to have in you toolbox is a USB audio device. They are cheap and work good enough for watching movies.
Search for "USB 2.0 External Stereo Audio Adapter" from your favorite vendor

I think Windows 10 will have no issue with it.  :)

That is awesome and perfect, although hopefully it wont short out my USB's like the keyboard and mouse do if plugged into the wrong ports for some reason.

You know, I think that I might have to upgrade if not just to replace my wonky motherboard.
