I backed up my computer on a external hard drive and thought all my contacts stored in outlook would be backed up also. I then upgraded to Windows 7 and now want to pull them from the backed up files. I have found a file Outlook.en-us and a few ICO files called contacts. but i can not open or extract them. Any one have any ideas or have i just lost them all.
Cheers

There should be a file named Outlook.pst which contains all contacts, calendar, and tasks data. Import it into Outlook or, even easier, replace the new Outlook.pst file with the one you backed up (assuming you reinstalled Office / Outlook rather than just doing an upgrade of W7 over your previous OS).

Hi, searched for the outlook.pst on the external hard drive and came up with nothing. there are other files like
OUTLOOK.DEV_COL.HXT_1033
OUTLOOK.HOL.1033
OUTLOOKHXS_1033
OUTLOOK_COL.HXC_1033
OUTLOOK_K_COL.HXK_1033
but no outlook.pst
I'm very lost!

Do a search for *.pst
