I am running Windows Vista on an E Machines. I need to clean disk D as I have a lot of systems restore on it . I have 2.07 GB free out of 8,36 GB on disk D. When I go to all programs and get "disk clean up" and "drive selection D" I click on "OK". This brings up a panel which has "more options" which I click on. A panel comes up which tells me I can delete all but the last restore point. I click on "clean up" but nothing happens. It does not clean disk D. Can anybody offer suggestions? Thanks

If they the space is used by system restore you could always shut it off and reboot and than turn it back on. That should flush out all the old restores.

I am a senior who doesn't know much about computers. How do I turn off the system restore. I know how to reboot but after that how do I turn on the system restore? Thanks

It isn't very hard to do. I would also suggest using less of your hard drive to do the system restore. To change that you will see a slide bar below the system restore check box.

I am running Vista and your suggestions were for Windows XP. I was afraid to try your suggestions because I was afraid I would mess something up. E Machines gave me a program which cleaned disk D. It did not get rid of all the system restart but it did get me a lot of free space in disk D which is what I wanted, Thanks

Exactly what is on D Drive? How do you know they're system restore points?

I don't know what is on disk D. I though the system restore points were there but apparently not. When I used CCleaner it cleared about 4 GB but I still have my system restore points. The reason I wanted to get rid of my system restore points was to get more free space. When I ran CCleaner I got the space I wanted so I did not go any farther trying to get rid of my system restore points.

I wouldn't get rid of your system restore points. They're there just in case something happens to your computer and you need to restore its settings.
You can turn it off or change how much space it uses if you Right Click My Computer and go to Properties.
