is there any way to force the vista areo glass to work in
16bit color?
i really think it would look nice but it needs 32bit color
and that makes me agitated
-
i tried to avoi doing this but
BUMP

No. Aero needs 32 bits per pixel.
-
if it switch to 32
the screen gets lines in it and 5 seconds later a nice BSoD comes on

Well, fix the problem.
-
well get a new graphics card
-
its a laptop
it did it even when new
i just always ran it in 16bpp and there is no reason areo shouldnt
work in 65536
-

Now you're just being silly.
-
name one good reason why it shouldnt work in 65536

No, you go first; you disputed my assertion; you give one good reason why it should.
-
becuase 65536 is enough to display evereything
and any thing that says you need more is crazy
and if there is some slight[/i] banding oh well
so the reason it should work is:
theres plenty of colors and 32bpp is not always possable at the desired res

That's not really a "reason", any more than saying "I want a present" is a "reason" why Santa Claus exists.
-
but there is also no reason for it not to work
except microsoft has there head up there you know where
-
Right...
So it's MS's fault you insist on living in the past and sit here and cry about why things don't work...
Makes sense to me...anyone else ? ?
-
since when is 1280x768 16bpp in the past?

It isn't goofball...16Bit is though.
-
so smeezekitty, go away and site in a coner and cry about not having aero

You are just being a silly child. I am revising your estimate of your emotional age down from 11 to maybe 8. Perhaps you are not neurotypical, in which case much is explained. Anyhow, Aero depends on having something called an "Alpha channel". For that you need 24 bits for the colours (8 each for red, blue & green) and 8 bits for the 8-bit Alpha channel that defines the transparency mask. Aero is written that way. Not to make your life difficult, but because actually, nobody else actually wants 16 bit Aero! You can no more get Aero to work in 16-bit colour ("color") mode than you can get an automobile engine to work with square pistons instead of round ones.

I would say hes 6 and his mom/dad need to ban him from the computer
-
@salmon trout
thank you for the information about the alpha channel
i think they could have emulated it but
oh well
@computeruler
cut it out

He could be an Aspie
-
cut it out
I think you should

He could be an Aspie
maybe so but no big deal

There you go
At least we know now.

smeezekitty, whether or not you have Asperger's is absolutely none of our business, and if you do, and you don't choose to share that knowledge with us, that is your business, but if you have, (really and not a "joke") then it does change how we would react to some of your posts. For the better. Because there is a lot about Aspies that neurotypicals don't understand, and we may get angry or dismissive about things that you can't help.
-
since video cards got enough RAM so that engineers could dump the ridiculous 5-6-5 2-byte packed colour.
By the way, there IS a good reason that it requires 32-bit colour.
1 Byte Red
1 Byte Green
1 Byte Blue
And one byte alpha
without the alpha there is no translucency. see the problem? the idea behind Aero Glass IS the transclucency.
...
hey, when did another page of posts appear?

i have never been dianosed with it but i have all the symtoms
as shown on the internet

I never saw the second page. didn't see a reason to not post it though :P

why cant the make the 16bpp
4bit red
5bit green
4 bit blue
3 bit alpha
that would be 16 shades of red 32 shades green 16 shades blue
8 shades alpha
-
Not worth the effort, considering very few people (if any) would want it. Making this sort of judgement (what other people think or feel) is just the sort of things Aspies are not very good at. Another typical trait is obsessively refusing to give up an idea.
-
it wouldnt look as bad as you imagine

You don't know how bad I imagine it would be. (Aspie trait)

i attached a picture of a simulation of 4 5 4 3 format

Because this would create yet another Device dependent Bitmap format- additionally such a configuration would leave only 8192 colours to use, which sounds like a lot, but is very noticable, especially with the proposed use with Aero Glass.
a Better alternative is to use the Non-Glass Aero and then use something like this:
void changetaskbarAlpha(BYTE Alpha)
{
HWND deskwnd = GetDesktopWindow();
SetWindowLong(deskwnd, GWL_EXSTYLE,
GetWindowLong(deskwnd, GWL_EXSTYLE) | WS_EX_LAYERED);
SetLayeredWindowAttributes(hwnd, 0, (255 * Alpha) / 100, LWA_ALPHA);
}
Works from windows 2K onwards- best effect can be found with a setting around 70%, higher if the background is noisy.
}
-
you may not need anotehr dib format
why couldnt it use a 32bit dib and translate to 16 upon blitting?
-
DEV C++ doesnt have SetLayeredWindowAttributes

No! I tried it and it didn't work. Aero Glass needs 32 bit color because there's lots of color.

-
Why are you quoting yourself now? That makes us agitated. And leads to the familiar "angry with smeezekitty" situation. The fact that something "makes you agitated" is irrelevant.
-
its in reply to neelchauhan as the question
as i already know it doesnt work in 32bit color
-
Well quoting yourself and not adding info is certainly a confusing way to make an invalid point...how are we supposed to know what you mean or who you are addressing ? ?
But i suppose we should be used to it...others use exactly the same approach.

i have seen JJ 3000 do it

My next door, Asian neighbors had a child they named, the japanese word for "right" or some variant thereof.
So in that particular case, two Wongs do make a Right...
