Title: Slow initial connect to major web sites with high speed
Post by: way2goofy on June 07, 2007, 10:02:54 PM
I am running Windows XP on high speed cable connection using Windows Internet Explorer 6 also tried 7. Ex- I click favorites - Click on EBAY - it loads slow like on dialup
or I get the connection error message. I then refresh and it comes up. If I leave EBAY or Amazon or any site up and click on another they come right up. I've tried pinging the sites - sometimes get 4 timeouts in a row, sometimes 3 of 4 are ok, sometimes 1 of 4 ok. If tested speed with my cable provider tech. support, it what it should be.
CPU usage normal - processes running normal. Does anyone have any ideas? When I first tried to post this message I got a timeout message and refreshed and resent.

e-mail seems fine. Using Outlook. When I just hit the Reply to answer your question
I got a message "can't display web page" I then refreshed and it came right up. When I click on "post" it will probably do the same thing. Is pinging a web site a valid test? I get alot of timeouts when I ping Ebay or Amazon or any site. If I leave my favorites window up and go from say Ebay and click on Amazon it goes fast. It seems to be the initial entry to a web site. All was working fine until 3 days ago.

Use tracert to one of the sites. Check the response time on each hop. You should be able to spot any abnormal delays. It could be any router along the path, including your ISP's.

2k_dummy, thanks for responding. I used tracert on Ebay - Google - Las Vegas Advisor - Amazon, several times I got a trace complete with 15 to 45 ms on each hop. Other times it goes up to 15 hops and start getting timeouts. 24.234.12.6 &
24.234.5.42 & 24.39.48.54. I don't see a pattern other than the 24 ??   I downloaded another browser, Opera and it does the same thing on that. The goofy thing to me is once I'm up on a site - click favorites and click on another site I go fast to the new site. It seems to be the initial request for a site thats slow. I should be able to select any site from scratch and get there fast, right? It was that way 3 days ago and I haven't changed anything.

Those IP's belong to Cox Communications and further assigned to LVCM.net Las Vegas. Their name servers appear slow to respond. I think your problem lies with your ISP.

My problem got worse this morning & I finally out of frustration did a set point system restore. I went back less than a week and before my trbl. started. It worked
and I'm happy now! I appreciate everyone's help and I learned from this experience. This is a great site. Thanks
