Title: Is personal files shown in IE browser history norm
Post by: kittykat16335 on January 03, 2007, 12:28:41 PM
Hi, I'm new to this and need some help. I have Windows xp and am using IE7. I've noticed that every file I open on my computer (word, excel, print shop ,etc) is being shown in the IE history as a web page that I visited. I am not using IE to open these files. I have ran AVG antivirus, Norton antivirus, spybot, adaware and counter spy. None of the items that they have found has stopped this. I thought that only pages that you have visited on the web showed up in your IE history. Can anyone tell me why this is happening, can I stop my files from going to the IE history.? Are my files safe? Also  for example if I click on my word file in the IE history I get a box asking "do I want to save this file or open it". Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

If you are using active desktop, disable it and go back to the windows default (old style) desktop. Active desktop treats everything like a web page.

Hi, Thanks for the help. But I'm not running active desktop. This started in December after I got the windows updates. Then I noticed that this was happening and is still happening. I've checked and unchecked alot of things, but its still there.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
