Title: firewall issue and firefox freezing...
Post by: Janalynne on February 22, 2010, 11:15:35 PM
this is my computer set up info which by the way i built it myself.  ;D yep, i do build computers and know how to do things, i work for sorenson, inc which i install videophones for deaf people and train them how to use and fix and repair videophones etc. i consider myself to be tech little savvy. i also used to work for a computer security company to repair the computer issues like formatting and such. i quit that job for my own personal reason.
anyway, heres the computer info...

THe reason why I did this, my husband's laptop is window xp and he couldn't get IE7 working because somehow the addon was disabled and i needed the laptop for work...he is still working on his following the computer hope method to find the problem to IE7 solution which UNFORUNATELY is a requirement for the sdb.sorenson.com VPN for my work for Sorenson, INC., they haven't upgraded the software to be compatible with IE8 or firefox for that matter which i know is difficult.  :'( ,but got no choice. now for my computer.. I have to keep IE7 for my work, and I use firefox for my own personal. .When i was reading the malware set up prodcure, i had not realize that ca security suite is not good as it was supposed to be, i switched over to avg free edition , i was really amazed how much faster my windows vista loading time. i did the super and the malware ..also did ccleaner (awesome product!)  then i did hijack tool and i used your computer hope tool beta, as you know icannot upgrade IE7 yet due to my work reasons. but when i am on a certain webpage example facebook app games and it requires refresh or to move to the next page or whatever, on firefox and even on IE, it would sometimes freeze for like up to 30 secs and the reloading on my website is slow, i did run speedtest it is little lower than what it was suposed to be. but i doubt that it has anything to do with the freezing issue. Then the hijack didn't detect WOT which i do have it installed on firefox...not sure why it wont recongize that, and  it didn't recongize the window firewall, my husband tried the online armor thing..im impressed kinda, so will download the armor firewall in a bit. The last malware scan i did is:

I have just one question.   Your HJT report shows this item in Running processes: sniper.exe.exe (http://www.download25.com/install/sniperspy.html).  Do you know why that's in your system?

oops ... meant to just say sniper.exe instead of sniper.exe.exe accourding to the malware set up prodcure....so will rename it?

Does it "freeze" or just "hang" for say 30 secs or so, then run again as usual??? While (if it hangs) hung does the "little Vista swirly deal keep "swirling" while you wait"??

yea it did that ... i just uninstalled it...and installed crome... and i don't have that freeze problem anymore.. thought that was strange .. i don't know ... i still have hard time trying to read and understand the process explorer... it still eats up lot of CPU somewhere.

I had the same issue, never did figure out what or why.... maybe someone here can. I finally installed Windows "7" after numerous tries at getting things to "work right", and even one full format/reload that didn't totally solve the issue...and never had the issue reoccur since. My "amateur" guess somewhere there is a conflict with hardware/software things just not meshing, perhaps a driver??... but i'm not savvy enough in those areas to tell you what it was! Wish you luck...
