The Computer Hope forums are picking up steam fast and I believe it's going to only get better and better. The forums are approaching the 100,000th post quickly, should easily hit by the end of this week. Anyone care to place their predictions for who will be the 100,000th poster?
My vote's on GX1_Man, he seems to be on a lot almost as much as I've been on recently and I've only slept 9 hours in the last three days.
Feel free to predict yourself if you think you're going to do it.
I'll try my best to be on when it happens so we can see who the lucky man or woman is.
-
Thanks for your vote of confidence. ;D I have had too much free time due to injury lately (torn Achilles tendon) and other health issues.
I will go out on a limb and vote for Blackberry!
-
Sorry to hear about your injuries and other health issues. Hope you get better soon!
-
Is the 100,000th post prize still BIG BUCK$? :D
Flame told me it was $5,000 and growing every week.
Was that you Flame?
I hope you're getting better GX1_Man.
-
Good health GX_1.
I think this will be someone outside. If not then I will be :D

If you're supplying the $5,000 I'm sure we could arrange that. :P
-
Do you really sleep? What's it like? :P
It's not very productive that's for sure.

:) really, why?

lol, perhaps you could get a sponser :)
-
I think at this point $5,000 is a little out of the question. However, I do have some upcomming plans for giving away some cool Computer Hope swag to all of the frequent Computer Hope forum and newsletter users. I'll also be doing some prizes and some contests hopefully soon to help build the Computer Hope forums participation. Just like to get all the big quirks worked out first. ;D

some prizes? if you mean real prizes it would be a hard to send to some of them, you live in amerika, I live in europe, the price of the sending would be bigger then the real price
-
You could always download the prize, or recieve an 'international' (planetary) voucher.
One Planet, One People!
download? lol :), that would only work for digital prices
-
Yep like actual prizes. Video cards, hard disk drives, sound cards, mice, etc. I definitely know how there is a lot of Computer Hope forum and newsletter users who are outside of the United States, which is why I'm having such a hard time setting up the logistics for sending out all the Computer Hope swag / promotional items.
However, I would still like to do it. If sending out the Computer Hope swag turns out to be too difficult for out of country users then I may just so something like gift certificates or something else creative that can be available to all users. However, this is not all going to happen anytime soon. But hopefully I'll get it all setup within the next month or so. Taxes, forums, and other business issues are my primary concern this month.
-
Money given to the government for your yearly income.
-
Hope you get better soon GX1_Man. My vote is on blackberry also. He is on alot also, he just could pull it off.
Hey, I would like to get 5k.
-
I think everyone would like to get 5k, myself included. ;)

what is 5k?
-
5k = 5,000 -- k is short for 1,000.

I could do with a new Hard Disk Drive lol :P
Sounds a great idea Admin.

Yay! ;D And what would the prizes be given away for? I know for newsletter folks, but do they have to do something in order to do this? Any catches? ;) :-/

At this time I believe prizes and contests would be forum member exclusive. What the contests would be is yet to be determined at this point.
The Computer Hope swag / promotional items would be given to some of the longest Newsletter readers as a token of gratitude and also to a large percentage of the all the people who help out on the forums. ;D
As mentioned earlier this will not be happening for a while, but apparently from the feedback it's definitely something everyone wants to see. I guess it's understanable, nothing wrong with free stuff. Apart from the mailing issues with out of country people the Computer Hope promotional items should be easy and I've already have a lot of the swag here. When doing taxes this year I'm going to be seeing if prizes / awards are tax deductible, if so I will likely be giving out some nice items out of my pocket.
Additionally I'll try to see if I can hit up some sponsorship. With as big as audience as Computer Hope and the Computer Hope forums is currently getting I'm sure I could get some really good sponsored items. I know from LAN parties with a few dozen participants they are able to get a lot of nice items for their participants. I'm sure with several thousand active forum members, millions of unique eyes seeing the site each month, and the thousands of newsletter subscribers I could manage to get some sponsored items. However, I'm not about to sell the Computer Hope soul and start plastering ads from sponsors everywhere like a lot of other sites do. I'll buy the prizes before I do that!
But anyhow stay tuned I'll update the forums when this happens.

Sounds cool. The higher memebers get their own prizes, and the newer members get their own set. Sounds like a great idea.

i don't think so, a lot of people would just post as many to get those prizes, than you have post that are stupid and you have nothing to those posts

How close are we right now?

How close are we right now?
You can check the ammount of posts at the bottom of the main page. Currently at 96232, it's going a little slower than I anticipated but still gradually getting up there.

This is my prediction and I am good at this ;) Beginners Luck!
I just love the new ratings system. GX1_Man is now a Hacker.
lol Doing so much for people and get rewarded by the status Hacker. PC gurus may like it but I don't. Marytr Volunteer would sound better :D

Hey, this really is C.R.A.P. , Computer Religion And Phishing by uncle Hal the kiddies pal.
What do we novices know about such things?
Take a look at the religious definition of 'novice' and then examine 'head', 'heads', and 'god-head'.
They want to know just how long this 57 year old married man has been celibate.
the most stupid things I ever heard. Your first post were very very handfull and good, but your last 50 posts are really meaningless...

So Nathan what things woudl you be considering to give away? :)

When will we hit ........100,000 post ?
Based on the number of posts that we have had in the last 4 days, unless the numbers increase ....it will be in February .....possibly the between the 2nd and the 4th

Thought it was going to be faster initially, but posts appeared to slow down a little or I was just imagining things. Maybe we should also do predictions on when it will happen. Based off just some quick looks at the amount of posts over the last few days it appears there is about 200 posts a day and about 3,000 posts to go, so I would say late February 6 or early February 7, 2006.

No , I have noticed the number of posts have dropped off for some reason.
Based on the numbers I have jotted down , we have been averaging about 9-10 posts per hour over the last 4 days ......

Well not sure exactly what would cause the decrease of posts. I'm sure after awhile it should pickup, as far as I can tell there should not be any reasons (that I'm aware of) that would have caused a decrease. I completed the implementation of the forum links on each of the pages (top bar) and have been adding more mentions to users who need their questions answered to visit the forums. This seems to have increased the frequent amounts of visits from guests but still many of the guests and users don't seem to be posting much. I'm sure it's just going to take time. It took the Computer Hope site approximately 5 years to really start getting a lot of traffic and because most of the visitors on Computer Hope are new computer users most are not going to want to participate in the forums.

since the "changes" i'm mostly whole alone on the forum when i'm online, or if i'm lucky with a few guest around me too. Before the changes, I was almost never alone, mostly with another 8 users too, and tons of guests... I think that the changes holds the people away...

Forums hit the 100,000 post today at approximately 9:00(MST). Unfortunately I missed it by a few posts, meaning I was unable to determine who actually made the 100,000th post. Of course this had to happen while I was out eating as I expected.
I'll try see if there is any other way of seeing who made it and what the post was. But for now it's a mystry. :-[
-
I think it was me. ;D
-
Are you running Admin? :D It was not me... My d*** ISP >:(
They always do this...I couldn't post for a day. Can you believe.
Fed are you sure ? :D

Nope, it was definitely me! ;) It happened during the first quarter of the Super Bowl, just as my pizza arrived. I shot out four messages in a row at 5:47-5:48 p.m. CST. :o :o :o :o :o :o
