I recently purchased a new wide screen LCD monitor to replace my old and kaput CRT. I've run into a problem with running it at it's native resolution though. After installing the monitor's drivers, the only resolution options available on the display settings tab is for a 4:3 and 3:2 aspect ratios. This has forced me to use a 1280x1024 resolution that causes everything to stretch across the screen.
I realize that both my OS and hardware are prehistoric, but my video card claims to support resolutions up to 1600x1200. So I'm left wondering, is this a limitation of my OS, or is it my video card that's preventing me from using a 16:10 aspect ratio?
If it is the video card, how do you know what cards support a widescreen monitor?

1600x1200 still represents 4:3 ratio.
Your video card needs to support wide screen resolutions:
