Title: Super Problems: nothing on my computer works because of an infection
Post by: mopper81 on April 18, 2010, 01:17:58 PM
I've contracted some kind of virus and it won't let me run any program other than my browser. When i try to open something it says "Application cannot be executed. The file _____ is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?"In addition to this message popping up when a program is clicked, it happens at random with things I've never heard of. This virus is a nightmare. Please Help?

I just read all that. I can't put any logs up because nothing, absolutely nothing, will open on my computer. (Notepad, iTunes, MBAM, HJT, not even add/remove programs or task manager will open) If theres something wrong with my post or I've overlooked some part of that page and my misunderstanding is preventing you from helping me, please let me know which part i need to reread.

You get "Application can not be executed" Security Warning when your computer is infected with a rogue anti-spyware application or other malicious software. Malware blocks legitimate software and states that the requested file is infected. Then, it asks whether you want to activate antivirus fake or not. If such error occurs, you should stop malware processes with task manager. If task manager is blocked, then use Process Explorer. Then, try to run your anti-virus software again.

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.
Save Rkill to your desktop.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click Rkill and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

Rkill.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe)
Rkill.com (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.com)
Rkill.scr (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr)
Rkill.pif (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.pif)

Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and Run exeHelper.

Please download exeHelper from Raktor (http://www.raktor.net/exeHelper/exeHelper.com) to your desktop.

You may have to do this on a clean computer.

Go to this link to create a Rescue CD (http://evilfantasy.wordpress.com/2009/05/06/rescue-cds/) or to this site to create a Rescue USB (http://evilfantasy.wordpress.com/bitdefender-rescue-usb/). Carefully follow all the instructions for whichever method you choose.
