well from all erlier posts i had, to no sucess, i believe i have a greater prob.
after trying to re format the hd i`ve come across all kinds of barriers.
i`ve tried xp with boot disks, no luck, had second hd with w95 with errors, had hd re formatted on other computer and written with xp (which works fine on other pc) but blue screen on my pc.
i`m starting to wonder if i have a bios virus or not. keep in mind that i`m not totally new to re formating, i`ve been down this road before but not with this outcome. with fresh hd installed back into pc, automaticlly i get prompted to go into safe mode. that brings me back to blue screen error that says: had to shut down windows to prevent damage"
"tecnical information ***stop: 0x0000007b(0xf9678528, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
any ideas?

Download the MBR Rootkit Detector (http://www2.gmer.net/mbr/mbr.exe) to your desktop.
- Doubleclick mbr.exe and follow prompts.
- A black DOS window will quickly appear then disappear.
- When mbr.exe is finished it will create a log on your desktop.
- Copy and paste contents of that log file to your next reply.

0x0000007B: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
Windows lost access to the system partition or boot volume during the startup process. Typical causes: Installing incorrect device drivers when installing or upgrading storage adapter hardware, or a virus.

i guess 1 thing i forgot to mention is that the infected pc is my desktop. right now i`m using my laptop to find help. i cannot get past the blue screen on the desktop machine. no windows access at all. when i use a floppy for dos prompt, i dont get anywhere that way either. the hard drive is ready to go, just the pc wont let it happen. (even with 2 totally different o/s on 2 different hard drives, same prob.)

It's not a BIOS virus...
had hd re formatted on other computer and written with xp (which works fine on other pc) but blue screen on my pc.
If I understand correctly, you formatted, and installed ("Written") XP onto one HD from another PC, and then put it in yours, and it Blue screens. Not surprising.
Install from the OS disc ON your PC. If it doens't start from the CD-ROM double-check the CMOS boot order settings.

yes, i installed xp on my hard drive on another dell dimension (just like mine)and it works fine on other pc. i set cmos to 1 cd drive, 2 cd drive 3 hdd,4 floppy. i keep gettin "invalid drive" in the dos prompt for the cd drive. i've went thru every letter on the keyboard, sometimes i know it will default to another letter like "r:\ for cd" but still no luck.
should the hdd only have 1 partition when only running os? i know before the was 2 partitions.
before all this started i was able to boot strait from xp disk, but now the pc dont recognize the cd drive, even with boot floppies.

in the dos prompt for the cd drive
you lost me here- the XP CD, should boot, and guide you through the install.
Shouldn't have a prompt.

thats basically why i chose to reformat the hdd on a diff pc, no matter what i tried i could not get it to boot from the cd on my machine. like i said earlier, that i never had this prob before, no matter how screwed up the pc got, i was always able to boot from cd.
but now its is reformatted, it should just boot the os now, but it dont.....

Is this an MS CD with shinu holograms all over it ? ?
Have you tried another data cable for the CDROM ? ?
It should boot...
