Title: Maxtor problem

Hi this is my first post here at computer hope, I have a maxtor Diamond max Plus 9 120GB drive and it won't spin up no beeping or noises from it nothing is the Controller Board dead. ???

When you power it are you trying to hear it spin up? Are you sure it's not moving?

You can go online and get the drive tools to check the drive if you can get it to move...

If it's not spining then you pretty much have a toasted drive. I have heard some people try to tap it on a counter and then power it. Then again I have also heard about people trying to freeze them. Really at this point you can try almost anything its a dead drive.

Thanks I will try it just stopped working all of a sudden it worked fine a minute before its weird

Check your power connections to the drive. Even change to another power connector if possible.truenorth

Thank you truenorth for your reply I have tried that same thing happend I don't know what it is that caused it to do this it was the healthiest drive in the PC.

If you have access to another computer and can temporarily remove it then connect it to the other computer (pins set to slave) and see if you can access it from there. This will help to determine whether the drive has actually died. These instructions are based on it being an IDE as opposed to SATA HDD. If it is a SATA and you are unfamiliar with how to accomplish the same test using another SATA compatible HDD please advise and instructions will follow. You don,t actually have to put it in a bay as long as it is properly supported to test it.truenorth

Thank you truenorth for your reply, I have tried to do that I even swapped the power supply with a spare one still nothing, but I found a exact board of my model hard drive should I replace the board with it. Maybe it will work then I don't know  :-\

Thanks for your help everyone ;D I am sending it off to a data recovery place to get it checked out.
