Hi,
I am hoping somebody could help me with this : I was removing a program from my computer (Add/Remove Programs) and by mistake I deleted the SOUND (volume) program. Now I have no sound on my computer. Is there anything I can do to fix this? :-?.

Which version of Windows are you running ? ?
The more info you provide the quicker the problem is resolved in most cases...

Windows XP Home

Go to Start / Run and type in "sfc /scannow " without the quotes and hit Enter
Have your XP CD handy it will ask for it.

If that doesn't work; reinstall your audio card drivers. They should be on the CD that came with your audio card.

Thank you very much for the tips, but is there another way to do this? Maybe a driver or somethig I can get from the Internet? My laptop did not come with a CD for Windows XP, nor a Cd for the sound card.

Download and run Everest it will ID your hardware. Then you will know what sound driver to look for.

And we still have no idea about the computer itself. ::)

I don't know what you mean by me not providing enough info about my computer. I am not very literate in computers, but I kow my way around. I have a Compaq Presario laptop, Windows XP, I don't know what kind of a sound card has, since the system doesn't see it. I have no sound whatsoever.... and I know I deleted by mistake the sound from "Add/Remove Programs".
I don't know what else to tell you that will help you understand my problem... I run a program now ( Active@UNDELETE), and I think the file that I deleted is "System Volume Information"....but I'm not sure.....The program was only a demo and I can not restore the file.
I even tried the "system restore"....I don't think it did anything, however, now when I try to play a music file I get this error message : "DIRECT SOUND OUTPUT V2.43(D) ERROR : BAD DIRECT SOUND DRIVER. PLEASE INSTALL PROPER DRIVERS OR SELECT ANOTHER DEVICE IN CONFIGURATION. ERROR CODE : 88780078"
If you need more info, please tell me...
Thanx again

No, I did not.
As I said earlier, the computer did not come with a windows XP CD, or a sound card CD.....
I even downloaded all the programs from the website "street1" mentioned.....nothing.....

You need to let us know what soundcard you have installed.. The program isn't going to install the drivers for you.

Download, unzip, install and run Everest Home Edition
http://www.comcen.com.au/~fed/everest.zip
Select Computer>Summary from the left hand screen.
Right click in the right hand screen & select Copy All
Paste the details in here.

Looks like y'all have a live one. :-? ;D ;D ;D

Everest will tell you the Compaq model number as well, or it could be printed on the case. That is important as well.
-
And remember...even if you have deleted the drivers for your sound Everest will still be able to identify the hardware no matter what.
