Title: Error messages by Internet Explorer
Post by: Excaliber on December 13, 2006, 09:30:54 AM
While reading or sending e-mail and sometimes while browsing the Internet, an error will pop up:

IE has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to close.
Addon: fdcatch.dll. Company name: Fresh Devices.

A possible symptom also is, while in Outlook Express, I get an error:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems,
network prolems, or a long period of inactivity. Account:'mail.comcast', Server:'mail.comcast.net', Protocol:
POP3,Port:110,Secure[SSL]:No, socket Error:10053, Error Number:0x800CCC0F.

This last one has already caused a back up of 14 e-mails in the "out" box.

Have a read here, regarding fdcatch.dll: http://www.file.net/process/fdcatch.dll.html, and you could Google for more.

How frequent does the Outlook Express error occur?  You may need to contact comcast tech support on that problem.

To Soybean:

The error happens often and randomly. I might have to check with Comcast! Thanks for the info!
Would this error also cause the problem with IE? Or visaversa?

I believe the IE issue and the OE problem are not related.

Soybean,

Thanks. I'll try one at a time. Hopefully the first one will help lead toward the second.
