Title: Wipe out my hard drive
Post by: koloff on March 18, 2008, 08:52:05 PM
My son's Dell Computer is infected with a virus. It won't even allow the virus scan to run. It seemed to have wiped out all of his settings. I want to wipe out the hard drive and start over. All I have is the OS CD (Windows XP). He doesn't have any drivers except to his Wireless USB.

Can someone tell me step by step how to wipe out the hard drive to start over? Do I need anything else, other than his OS CD?

Thanks for your help, he is going crazy!

sure, make sure you dont need anything backed up.

you will need to set the bios to boot from cd which it already likely does and reboot the computer while the xp cd is in the rom.

the screen will display "press any key to install" while booting

do that and that will start the windows xp installation.

delete the partition and remake it

and this should clear is off

drivers are typically no biggie,

as long as you have the network card your good to go you can always download
