Title: Windows XP won't shutdown
Post by: ojas25 on July 16, 2009, 02:07:07 AM
My notebook will not shutdwon as through the start menu. OS is XP Home, it will shutdown by holding the start up button. Any clues to overcome this?

When did this start?

Try performing a System Restore (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000589.htm) to a few days before the problem started.

Sometimes I have the same problem but I believe it to be caused by a program that won't allow me to shut down until it closes but I don't know what program it is. Here's what I do

Ctrl+Alt+Del

Select "Shut Down" Then select "Turn Off". For some reason, this method seems to force it to shut down immediately for me. Give it a try. It's a temporary band-aid.
