Okay, since this is a new install let's start at the beginning please. Boot to the OS CD and when the install process starts choose the option to delete the partition. Then recreate the partition and do a FULL format (it will check the disk for errors and repair any it finds). Then go ahead and install and let's see what happens.

how do I get it to boot to the os cd

Your first post had it right - the cd drive has to be the first device in the bios boot order and the cd itself has to be bootable.

It is apparently booting past the cd and trying to finish the installation. Reboot and when the system first starts see if there is a message to press a key to boot to the cd.

Okay. You know, I'm sure this is very simple and I'm just not seeing it. I realize you are anxious to move forward but let me suggest we wait for someone else to jump in here and I will continue trying to figure out what it is that I'm overlooking.

thanks so far but is it possible to reset rtc and start over from scratch or will it be better to remove the floppy and the drdrw drive so that ther is only one drive it can boot from or do both
I have to go to the hospital for a couple hours Ill be back around 1;30 Ill check back in

is there a floppy in the floppy drive? If so, remove it and reboot. Sometimes a floppy can issue NTLDR or BOOTMGR missing errors.

Otherwise, there is something missing. either the  boot order is wrong or the disc in the drive is not bootable.

Thanks for the assist BC. Check me on this - even if the installation is at a point where it wants to reboot to complete, he should still be able to boot to the CD itself if he so chooses, no?

Then unless there is indeed a non-bootable floppy in the drive as you suggest, and the floppy is ahead of the cd in the boot order, I'm stumped.
